Ben said "not your typical girl problem" which meant nice one I'll give you massive kudos for that. Unlike bens roof it's 8a, not a 7b+ masquerading as a 7c+

Girls are generally shorter than men

Probably mostly true, as girls aren't fully grown yet. However, making sweeping generalisations about half the population is sexist, so how about splitting problems up into "those which suit people of smaller stature" and "those which suit people of larger stature" instead of basing on gender?

Yep. Walked into that one. Everyday sexism bang to rights.

making sweeping generalisations about half the population is sexist
Not if you include an appropriate caveat, in which case it might be a simple statement of a statistical fact. In this case, Ben did just that and described is as not a "typical 'girl problem'" (use of the word 'girl' notwithstanding). This was immediately followed up with a question about Emma's height, so in context it was clear that he was referring to the reach required.

People seem to forget that it is not necessarily sexist or harmful to acknowledge that there are some broad differences between males and females across the population. If a person considers themselves to be femenine/masculine (however they choose to define that) does that make them sexist because they have singled out certain qualities that they deem to be the preserve of one gender and not readily accessible to another?

If people are so terrified to mention gender/race/sexuality/whatever for fear of being labelled an "ist" or a "phobe", then it does not aid the progressive cause. It just shuts down the conversation and only those whose opinions are radical will be heard.

First outdoor route being an 8c in 2 sessions is probably the most impressive climbing news ever surely? Insane!

Wow - that is impressive. When he finally ticks 9c in years to come, no doubt he'll utter "I wish I'd started younger".

:agree:

Pretty impressive! He'll have to do a bit of travelling to get on 9a in a similar style though...

Barrows did the second ascent of Jordan's Excellent Adventure the other day in a relatively casual manner. I know he's not 12 or anything, but he does have big clown feet which must have made it awfully difficult.
