Blimey! good effort Leo.

I was about to write that I didnt think it was very good nic at the tor last night, but perhaps I should just try harder.

Is a 14 year old doing Brad Pit really significant? I mean, well done and all but really? is this news? a 14 year old doing 8b - yeah fair enough, but Brad Pit? Theres celebrating youth acheivement, and clogging the significant ascents thread with things which arent that significant. Like Diane Merrick doing Ben's roof - again, good effort, but really - do we really think this is significant? its not like its the first time a lady has done it?

A man climbing 8b in this country is significant because it doesnt happen that often. A man climbing 8a isnt because it happens more often.

The point is, when I see this thread has been updated, I check it to see whats going down. I dont want to read that some dude has driven for 4 hours to get to the grit - thats not significant to me! it is if he does the Ace and its June, and 25degrees and he cycled there, but not just that he went climbing! jesus - come on people - use your noggins!

I did say at the time, that I wasn't sure if it was something to be considered significant, but I'm fairly sure that none of the other ladies did it in such a short time.

However, if we followed your suggested rules, I guess you'd expect to see very few posts on this thread at all.

Whilst we are complaining. My complaints about this thread are post about chuffing successes and people reporting things by just a route name, as if we are all supposed to know all the hard routes in the country. Crag name and grade would make life so much easier.

Blah blah blah DobScotty rambling

Dob, a male doing 8B is interesting reading as it is only a few grades off the top level in this country. The top female level i this country is 8A still isn't it?  As such a female doing a 7C+ is as significant and a male doing 8B n'est ce pas?  To take the two problems you're talking about as examples, about as many men have done Keen Roof and ladies have done Ben's roof, so either both, or neither are worthy of comment IMHO.

To be honest I wasn't sure if it was a windup or not when I first read it for this reason- surely there are more men who have climbed 8b in this country than women who have done 7c+ (at least in terms of numbers reported). In fact hasn't Keen Roof had more male ascents than Ben's Roof has had female ascents?

And to state the bleedingly obvious; bloody good effort Shauna!  :jaw:

I saw the scousers in the Cave but didn't catch on that something major had gone down. First proper 8a+ by a British female? Claire Murphy's Hueco ticks were 8a i think.

Really impressive. More so as it's the first 8 on UK soil by a shorty? Is that right?
