Annoying Acer Laptop
November 06, 2008, 01:15:12 pm
Our home Acer laptop has developed a "quirk" where if you are typing on it, the cursor sometimes jumps to midway up on the previous line of text so that what you are writnign is inserted in the previous sentence. I mentioned this to a mate who also has one, and he said his does exactly the same thing. Was wondering if anyone knows if this is a common fault, or if there is some key that we are pressing accidentally that would do this?

Got it from Amazon, and is still under warranty, but would be a pain to remove all the data stored on it if we were to send it back.

Thanks.

The in-laws have one and it does the same thing. They appear to have a ridiculously sensitive touchpad (should be renamed an "almost touching pad") and if you adopt a deeply uncomfortable raised wrists typing style the problem seems to disapear, although you then get the new problem of carpal tunnel syndrome but whatchya' gonna do?

I thought it might be as much. Is there any way of adjusting sensitivity? Might have a look.

Assuming your in windows you can adjust mouse settings under Control Panel -> Mouse

Not sure what setting after that as I'm on a work desktop and touchpads tend to have more settings to adjust such sensitivity than a traditional mouse.

I had this problem too but I think it was to do with my sausage fingers leaving grease on the keypad.

I think I've sussed it - there is a "Tap off when typing" option under the mouse settings. Seems to have sorted it out.

Cheers.
