Churnet Conditions...
November 06, 2008, 01:14:49 am
Anybody know what the Churnet is looking like for this weekend? Has the rock finally succumbed to the rubbish rubbish weather or will it yet offer sanctuary from all this rain? In fact, does it ever get wet? Any local's knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Ta!

was in v.g. condit last weekend.  Wrights rock is almost always dry, even during that spate of terrible weather a month or so ago most of the problems were still bone, which accounts in part for the horrendous chalkiness of the place.
Ousal is usually dry even after sustained bad weather and gentlemans does seep a bit.

both times i've been there the left 3rd of the ousal traverses have been drenched, so i wouldn't put all your eggs in the ousal basket in bad weather.

Ina's rock seems permanently dry. There was even a massive downpour last time I was at the crag and it seemed to magically stop 2m around the base of the crag. None of the climbing got wet.

The first time I went to the churnet I saw the ousal go from bone dry to drenched in a very short period of time, after days of bad weather. I guess there's always a lottery element to finding conditions in poor weather.

wrights was a bit damp last sunday. There was condensation on the pebbles. Although I think there's always stuff that can be done. The base was also getting a bit greener.

Anyone been out in the Churnet in the past few days?  If so, how damp and green is it?

Thanks.

Dunno really Andi, it was more checking to see how dry it was in case we got fogged off at the Roaches last weekend.  However, the thought is still there in case its damp up on the grit this saturday.  Have you been to the Churnet before?  If you haven't we'll have to sort a visit out some time, maybe next year now though, unless conditions dictate it for this weekend.

No i've never been but Wright's Rock looks amazing and the other things in that area look pretty cool too. I wish I could make it this weekend but I've got to work! Have fun at the Roaches!

Cheers Andi.  Churnet is well cool to be honest, with a variety of stuff hidden in the trees.  Let me and the other scouse contingent know if you're thinking of heading that way and we'll try to hook up.
