Links open spam sites. Help appreciated.
October 19, 2008, 12:57:49 pm
Over the past 2 days I've noticed a couple of problems with Internet Explorer.
If I search in Google for a site eg UKB, the usual results page comes up.  However, if I then click on the link to the proper home page I get redirected straight to a pr0n site/ Spamming site.
I've also started getting loads of pop up ads, whereas these were all blocked until 2 days ago.

I've done a scan with Avira- nothing.
I've looked in my program list for anything unusual- nothing.

Anyone else having problems?  I assume it's some malware, but I haven't been able to find it.  And Google wasn't too helpful, although I did get to see lots of pr0n  >:(
I'll be using FireFox from now on anyway, but I'd like to be sure this is sorted too.

269 problems found.  Just finishing running SpyBot then I'll try your suggestion Jim.
Cheers.

Rather ironically SpyBot has just completely crashed when trying to clear the problem
Here we go again.....

Right, I've run all these fixes and still have the problem.  After some research it seems the problem is a redirect via copy-book.com, some info here.

i'll let you know how I get on as it's a persistent little git.

Have you looked at your hosts file to see if there's any dodgy entries in there?

For XP it's at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

The file is just called hosts, no extension - open it up in notepad and see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be. It's usually pretty much empty...

Cheers Bubbs, it's on my to-do list along with a manual file clearance as mentioned here.

Total fucking pain in the ass.

Did a manual clearance as above.  All redirection stopped, so I restarted to test it and bollockation it was back.  I obviously missed an exe on my sweep.  Trying Super AntiSpyware for a further search.  Grrrrr.   >:(

As Barney Greenway would say "Z lob, Z lob, Z lob, Fuck off!!!"
