The Claw
November 26, 2008, 11:42:25 pm
Hi Guys

This is my first post so I would like to say hello....so....hello.

I had my first ever go at bouldering yesterday and enjoyed it and would like to get into it (I spent my day at work reading this forum).  I have had quite a serious injury (the pic below) which has left me with the "claw" - the finger is now fused in the position in the picture (5 operations later) and it did hamper me in my first attempt though I was pretty rubbish all round.

I was just hoping to hear if anyone has had an experience of climbing with a fused and rather rubbish finger like mine and how they dealt with it - tips would be good. I would hate if this limits me before I even get started!

Thanks guys

Miller

Tommy Caldwell sawed his own finger off -

And he seems to be doing alright i.e. various impressive feats on el cap and shagging Beth Rodden

Kevin Shield seems to manage alright. So it's definitely possible.

Why would you saw your own finger off? :o

Edit: I see he didn't do it on purpose.

Can't see the pic, and quite glad, sounds nasty. Dave Musgrove Snr seems to still climb well, in spite of missing a doigt or two.

nice thing is bouldering can be enjoyed at any level, and it's not all about having strong fingers. Just get out there and enjoy it.

Good news - I can't use it as an excuse only a challenge!  Off to the wall I go!

I couldn't possibly divulge such personal information to a relative stranger  :-[
