Rebuilding a drill battery

Has anyone ever tried rebuilding a knackered Hilti 36V drill battery. i.e. opening it up and replacing the individual cells.

SamT is yer man. In Derbyshire caving circles we've been replacing the cells with an empty battery box with a 'Derbyshire lead' that allows the drill to be run off a bigger array of cells housed inside a Pelicase

(note, this is after also successfully replacing all the cells inside the box itself but looking for a more cave resistant, longer duration solution)
