What file is it you need to read?
Prem Pro and Vegas Pro read almost everything in HD format.

I use Prem Pro and Vegas and they both handle MPEG.  Where's the file from?  Somethings can be MPEG but encoded eg h264 etc etc.
There's always the chance the file's corrupt.
Try importing it into whatever created it and exporting as a different file type.

ive copied the files from my camera to my file and then went to import from there:

the message i get is:
File format not supported.

they dont show on the list when i go to import, i have to click all files.
i cant see anything with a .mpeg extention either

they do work tho, they open in cyberlink powerDVD and its the same from 2 trips now.
both sets wont import.

Have you tried importing from camcorder into one of those expensive programs?

no :[ i just copy the files across then delete for the next trip!
ive got some but the sounds a bit crap and the filming doesnt stop fully, for example
we mess around after the clip etc. might be funny but for climbing clips i want to chop them!
ill upload to vimeo anyways as i have a couple of alright ones i guess

Are you using the full version of P Pro or a trial?

P Pro doesn't have great mpeg support anyway - it's considered to be an output format rather than an input one. You could try converting the mpeg to something else.

So you've done it before and it works?

In which case it sounds like a duff file, except it works in PowerDVD  :-\

I'd suggest you connect the camera to the PC with the FireWire lead.  Then open Adobe/Sony.  Go to capture video.  See what happens.
