ARFK linked to this story on the last page but thanks for the Brooker link as he's totally nailed it again.

For anyone unsure about what the NHS "reforms" actually mean, Ben Goldacre has summed it up nicely in 5 tweets:

http://bengoldacre.posterous.com/what-will-happen-with-the-nhs-bill-in-5-tweet

I haven't heard anything in the news about the commissioning side of things.

My wife is one of the people with commissioning expertise. The reforms propose that she, and everyone like her, are moved to local authorities outside of any direct NHS structure, and that the council have to find the money from their existing, shrinking, seriously under pressure budget to pay for them, even though the work they do will effectively be for the GP consortia. Apparently my wife's boss is really struggling to persuade the council that what they do is important.

From some1 whos dying of cancer ask me why lifes precious and should not be so carelessly risked!!!! What a complete disregard for themselves and for others. For me heroes are people who selflessly risked their lives for others or the people I see in the cancer ward struggling through arduous gruelling radio/ chemotherapy treatments, not these two people so a bit of realism and perspective PLEASE!!!!!

I can understand risking ones life for a cause: becoming an astronaut, firefighter, policeman, or joining the military, etc. But I cannot see why this would interest anyone but the two who did it.

I am sorry, I dont see the point of this silliness. Surely they could be doing something of use to society. Ridiculous! What would have happened if they had got stuck fast? How many people would have had to risk their lives in an attempt to save them?

Um, most of the people I've met on the cancer ward, would give anything to try that. Most find they wish they'd tried quite a few things, when they could.

Glad there's plenty of muppets in the world...
I mean imagine 6 billion people heading for the crag of a Saturday...

A Downing Street source said: "As we hurtle towards the point where the economy stops being Gordon Brown's fault it is important that we keep everyone very, very drunk."

Tescos offering permanent night shifts for.....Job Seekers Allowance cheap fucking scumbag profiteers.

Apparently used 1400 such workers 4 months, if they'd paid them minimum wage (which is more than JSA) it would have cost them ~£1million, not a huge amount for a company that posts profits in the billions.

Tis a disgrace that.

If you want to get even more angry then read this excellent article that explains what the credit ratings agencies actually do (clue; it's all a fucking scam):

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/feb/15/credit-ratings-agencies-moodys

Quote
Though Hannover was not a client of Moody's, the agency said that it had nevertheless decided to rate them free of charge. Ominously, the agency hoped that in the future Hannover would be interested in paying for the service itself. "We need to act," said Hannover's chairman, Wilhelm Zeller.

Unfortunately, Hannover did not act soon enough. Moody's began rating Hannover's debt status, but the insurance company had already enlisted the services of S&P and AM Best (another, smaller agency). In 2003, Moody's downgraded its debt to junk status, and because of the respect paid to Moody's valuations, shareholders panicked, sold their stock, and Hannover Re lost $175m (£111m) in an afternoon. Moody's declined to comment for the Washington Post piece.
