Not sure where else to put this, but the review amused me http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/sep/21/urfrenz-trailer-social-network

When I read it I thought he was being blasé rather than arrogant but life would be boring if everyone interpreted everything the same (or was it the particular choice of vino that was arrogant?).  :tease:

Bit of a dumb question from the CPA in the first place, and if you ask a stupid question, you'll often get a stupid answer.

As a scientist, If you want to predict when an earthquake will happen, I advise you ask Uri Geller.

Irony

Quote
The autobiography of Julian Assange is set to be published for the first time tomorrow despite attempts by the WikiLeaks founder to suppress his tell-all memoir after a bitter and acrimonious row with its publisher.

Quote
"The memoir paints a vivid portrait of a driven but notoriously mercurial idealist bent on moulding the world in his own belief of absolute transparency."

I may be an Engineer these days...

But I did read Geology.

Predicting a "where" and "when" for an earthquake is simple.

Unfortunately, the answer is:

1, Now, before I finish speaking.

2, Somewhere.

It is pretty stupid to prosecute for not being able to do the impossible, even as it was idiotic to be so blase (got an Arabic key board, can't do accents); he was probably sick of being asked the damn silly question...

Interesting. I've seen this "£12.7bn wasted" statement bandied about a lot but if you look at the figures in that article it's not right by a long way.

Quote
Some elements of the scheme which have proved successful - such as the "choose and book" system - will be retained. Their delivery accounts for around two-thirds of the £6.4 billion spent on the programme so far.

So actually £6.4bn has been spent and 2/3 of that (£4.27bn) has been spent on successful projects which are being retained.

That leaves £2.13bn which has been spent on projects which are not being retained or "wasted".

Only £10.57bn out then.

Don't get me wrong, I always thought it was a shit idea and a total waste of money but the statements being chucked about are completely inaccurate.

Aren't there often contractual obligations that need to be paid?  I seem to recall that when the National ID card scheme was scrapped, the government were still contractually obliged to pay those who won the contract to implement it a stupid amount of money (the "compensation arrangements" mentioned).

Anyone who disagrees with the fucking barbaric practice that is capital punishment should take a minute to read this. After which you'll hopefully want to email the Georgia Parole Board to ask them not to kill Troy Davis:

http://action.amnesty.org.uk/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1194&ea.campaign.id=11962&utm_source=aiuk&utm_medium=homepage&utm_campaign=deathpenalty&utm_content=troy_homepage_main

What a thoroughly depressing day.

(Sometimes you can't help but wonder if the World would have been a better place if Sherman had done a more thorough job.)

To be fair, thats what you get for £350. Its got to be bargain basement as far as killers go shirley? And don't even get started on the 'love at first sight' thing, he can't exactly be a hardened killer.

At the other end of the scale you can freeze to death sitting under an air-conditioning unit.
