Those pigs remind me of my "Running of the Pigs" idea...

In the light of various ethical and environmental concerns it seems right to me that people should have a license to eat meat. Children will be exempt from needing a license. Adults will have to take part in an annual event to earn their license.

The event will involve a number of pigs of different sizes being released onto the streets. Everyone who wants to be allowed to eat meat must join in chasing/running from the pigs. The aim being to kill the little porkers using only bare hands and knives not longer than 15cm. Anyone who holds a pig down while it is murdered or who does the actual killing will get a lifetime license to eat meat. Everyone else who joins in the running will get a license for the year.

People who are unable to join in the running due to disability or old age can gain a license by helping with the butchering and roasting of the killed pigs. We'll all have roast pork sandwiches for tea at the end of the day.

Smaller events will be held in basketball courts and skate parks for people who can't make the main event.

Obviously there will be alternative events for people who can't get down with pork for religious or cultural reasons. The Manchester Goat-Fest and the Aberdeen Bull-Bash could be fun days out for all the family.

The first Running of the Pigs should take place in Sheffield to celebrate that city's tradition of roast pork sandwiches and knife making.

Beer cheaper than water in UK

EDIT

Supermarket own brand value lager weak as piss - might as well buy water

Things have almost come full circle since beer was originally drunk in preference over water as the brewing process meant it had less contaminants than water.  The circle will only be completed though when water supplies are contaminated.

People will be people and will invariably do what they want anyway, whether booze is expensive or not, or whether this has a detrimental effect on them or their family and friends.

If booze is expensive then people will not get used to drinking loads of it to start with (thinking of the future here). This way people (of average means) will be less likely to value booze more than family and friends.

The minimum price per unit is a good thing. Quality is where it's at; and people with more money than sense will... um.... still become detached from their families - probably send the kids off to boarding school and all that shit.

Still leaves us the problem of how to deal with people already addicted to cheap booze though.

I don't see people having a whip around for the grand cru classe claret that Graeme, Joe and I are jonesin' for.

Then again the social workers are proles and wouldn't be able to tell a good left bank from an over priced bot from tescos with too much gold on the label.

I mean look at CJD. :read: :pissed:

I do hope you're not calling me a social worker (ssssspit), coz that would be fighting talk.

What has Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease got to do with the shiny labels that they have on quality wines?

the Sheaf satruday evening.

I'm coming down with a touch of Man Flu and am supposed to be supporting The Boss and her sister in a social visit to a person that neither of them likes (WTF?) on Sat eve, but will try my best to get my unprofessional, lazy, work shy arse to the bar if the wife can give me a bit of spending money.

Having just a finished a job where I was  a running a crew of seventy people , made up of 48 non-english speaking 'locals' , seven incredibly racist emiratees (?) and fifteen work shy english oxygen thieves I have decided to become an anti-social worker ...
