Fucking disgraceful

Why the fuck should my grandparents who have no intention what so ever of getting a 'net connection have to pay for this, yet another poorly thought out plan.

Surely it would be far more sensible to levvy the tax on those who have an internet connection, be it wired or wireless (after all 99% of people will have a contract with their provider, there is only a small proportion of individuals who permanently piggy-back on others networks).

Probably time to ditch the home telephone line now anyway though  :P

Another HMG stealth tax to add to labour's hidden tax rises.

Perhaps Tomtom could corroborate this one  :)

"Dr Kealey, a clinical bio-chemist and vice-chancellor of Buckingham University, likened the classroom to a lap dancing club and said admiring the curves of attractive students could help "spice up" marital sex."

Twat. What a stupid thing to write, now he's given away all of our secrets and perks  ;) Seriously, the guys an ass.

Its a daft article really, needlessly sensationalising something thats quite obvious. If you have an attractive woman in a class you are teaching - of course you might notice her - may even look at her a few more times than the black clad spotty greasy haired smelly cretin asleep on the back row - thats natural. But acting on any urges is just daft really and hardly ever happens (to my knowledge). It is of course completely legal to have relationships between students and staff - and there are procedures in place so that if it happens the staff member has no position of authority over the student (e.g. marking or supervision) - that its declared...

To be honest somethings got to be pretty wrong if you participate in a student staff relationship as there are all sorts of issues of power and control entwined within it - something I would certainly not feel comfortable with.

You hear tales of blow jobs being offered for good marks - but theres probably a large element of urban myth about that. I personally know of one lecturer (not where I work) who started a relationship with a student the day after she graduated..  :-\

Students can also pursue the lecturers, sometimes quite aggressively... in a previous job I've had to push away a drunken student of mine who was moving in for..... I've had other students I'm not sure about, asking to see me lots of times, staring moon eyed over the desk at me. Then its just a matter of being sensible and keeping the office door open and a desk between!

There are of course many relationships that have come from postgraduate - staff mixes. Here the age gap is closer and postgrads (esp phd students) are pretty much the same as staff (share same coffee rooms, socialising, hours of work etc..) so these are kind of frowned upon - and you are not allowed to continue supervising your girl/boyfriend. Quite a large number of academics other halves are former PhD students who worked at the same place. Just for the record, Mrs TT is not a former student, postgrad or colleague. She cost me £2000 on the internet :)

Now, if anyone here wants to discuss any of these issues further with me, come up to my office and sit on my knee  ;)

One of my current work colleagues has admitted to sleeping with one of her philosophy lecturers.

In many ways it can be fine - both parties are of age and consent etc.. but not for me. I guess some peoples moral compass points in a different direction...

My first lecturing job (99) involved moving into the office of a just retired academic. He reputedly had a caravan at a nearby seaside town specifically for the purpose of taking students there to screw. I heard that from several people so had no reason to doubt it.I get the impression alot more of it used to happen than does now...

It may well be different in different subjects. Most of my teaching is large classes, other degrees may have smaller tutorials more frequently within which I suppose there is more opportunity for the 'sap to rise'....

In my final year at school, one of the guys managed to get it together with one of the student teachers there on placement. She was pretty hot, he was elevated to legend status.

Holy crap were you lecturing geology at Leeds 11 years ago?  ;D

There was a philosophy lecturer at Leeds who is/was notorious for hooking up with students, he was quite ugly, so must have been very smart!

Funny but sadly true.

Quote
But defence analyst Julian Cook insisted: "Britain's desire to be a big player on the world stage has delivered huge benefits including being dragged into a series of catastrophic wars with America's throbbing tumescence lodged firmly at the back of our throat, while at the same time being unable to afford decent roads, railways, schools and hospitals. It's what we call a 'win-win'.

Sad but true indeed.

Excellent - Sir Clive Sinclair couldnt do it with the C5 - the Segway was - erm - not really a huge success I guess, now Honda are having a go! Excellent video here. I assume as he is steering it no hands its either by balance or some sort of anal probe... Judging by the grin on his face its the latter!!

Women gets pregnant while pregnant:

The bloke in the picture has an excellent 'I'm so virile I knocked her up while she was already up the duff' look on his face.

Oh yes - he does indeed look really smug. Though for me that smugness evaporated in a nanosecond when my eyes move right to view his tank wife!
