From a friend and fellow Southern Ocean veteran...
Today, put in perspective. I love the annotation (bit big, but needs to be):

I looked again at the map I posted above, and something occurred to me; so I did a little checking:

Then looked at how big Irma is:

Can you imagine it hitting here? With the best part of 68M people  in the way?
Shit.

size of the storms in the southern ocean is vastly exaggerated on your first map due to the projection

True, to a point.

But, you can mentally scale it like this. The distance from Spain to the East coast of the US is ~4100 mi. The dist from Cape Town to Antarctica is ~4300mi, so whilst the projection accentuates the size difference, it's still pretty massive.

Here, I would say the "Storm" could be considered to extend to at least the 988 isobar. Giving two of the storms diameters over 2000mi plus to Irma's ~700 ish.

Terrible news about the hurricanes. It is really sad to see all the devastation.

Some good news closer to home, for West Londoners. Roll on 2018 the new Arch wall - gala bingo[emoji851] style. 20k sq feet of climbing space, epic!

Some days, I find my atheism a challenge.
It's just so hard to have no faith and to keep believing that things like this have happened for no particular reason, when it seems so right.

Todays Master class will be:

"How to report bad news, as good news, despite telling everyone how great a weak pound is for exports, repeatedly, for months."

What a pretty red box. 10/10 for presentation.

Questions will not be tolerated.

I've just been listening to a wonderful episode of Radio 5 Live (Afternoon Edition) in which Arun Gandhi talks about his new book "The Gift of Anger". Interesting thoughts on the distinction between tolerance and respect too. I'm sure this will be available on iPlayer. This was a complete gift to be able to hear. http://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Gift-of-Anger/Arun-Gandhi/9781476754857

Yes finally some good news! This is 8 min cycle from my house, I pretty much go past it on the way to the Westway which is 3 times further. Hopefully they will do the early open like the other Arch buildings.

Apparently only a minority of Catalans want to secede. With heavy handed tactics like this, I wonder if Rajoy will change that.

Nothing has changed, nothing has changed, I’m still doing a shit job. Cough, cough...

As the country slowly disintegrates so apparently does the set.
She is toast.... cough,

On that note, let's take a moment to imagine what sort of outrage we might see if people picked up on JC for coughing during a speech or drinking water incorrectly.

You forgot the set falling down.

It is all rather poetic, though; karmic and all that stuff.

Jesus we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel with the Cons.
Priti thinks it is ok to direct uk foreign policy herself, without the knowledge of the PM.
She stated last week it was ok to meet some key players in Israeli as she was on holiday.
Turns out on her 12 day holiday she had 12 meetings with key players including Benjamin Netanyahu! What about the beach/ice creams, no time for that.
It is a fucking disgrace, the Middle East is a tinder box.
No probs for her, she can freelance it on her hols, next destination N Korea at Christmas.

For clarity
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-from-international-development-secretary-priti-patel

Priti we mustn’t forget was one of the key players in the Brexit.
Surprise, sur fucking surprise.
The country is a shambles at the moment.

I remember suddenly waking up to how frickin awful the world was, sometime around ‘82 or ‘83.
I’d grown up living six miles from the end of the largest runway outside of the US, reserve landing for the shuttle, NATO North Atlantic command bunker and home to Britains largest Squadron of Nuclear bombers.
As a boy, I thought the deafening, sky blackening, apocalyptic cacophony of twenty Vulcan bombers, five abreast and still low enough to read their markings; was comforting. A simbol of our power and invulnerability. No one would dare face that!
But, then I watched a TV drama, it was called “Threads” I think. I sought out other similar stories, like “When the wind blows”, “The day after” etc. I looked things up and plotted blast radiuses on the map on my bedroom wall. Thought about prevailing winds.
I felt pretty damn awful for a while, and could see no way that the future could be anything other than terrible.

I feel like that again.
