Bafa Lake

Has anyone been to Bafa Lake in South West Turkey?

I'm heading over to Istanbul in October/November and want to get down there and do some bouldering. It looks fantastic but info isn't that easy to get. I have already checked out that planetkaya website.

I was also thinking of taking a ferry over to Kos and checking out the boulders near Kardemina and dusting off the harness and rope and heading to Kalymnos for a week or so.

Any info/tips/ ideas on cheap accommodation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

we have been there in December/January. In Bafa Gölü there are some pensions, where you can rent a room. In Winter it should be quite cheap. It is not very easy to find boulders, because there are not many climbers around, so you won´t find very much chalk or other traces. You will have to walk around and see if you can find something. For a beginning, there is some information in german at: http://www.klettern.de/sixcms/media.php/8/KL1106-Bafa-INFO.432844.pdf

Maybe you can translate it with google.
Some bulgarians created a new sector at the end of the road to the west with some very good boulders.
You should have a car, because there are only tiny shops in Bafa Gölü and it is hard to reach.
There is also a film about bouldering there, it´s called "Herkleia". Nice bouldering movie from the US.
The landscape is amazing, the bouldering not as good as let´s say Switzerland or Fontainebleau.

if you have more questions, pleas contact me.

Peter
