Places to Boulder with a Baby
February 22, 2013, 11:41:52 am
My girlfriend and I have a lot of long weekends off work this year. We're looking to find good places to go bouldering that are suitable to bring along our little one. He's currently 4 months old.

Near by camping would be good also, or even places we can hit for the day.

We have a trip to Font planned for October. So places in the UK would be best.

We live in Wrexham, North Wales, I've only ever bouldered in North Wales so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Luke

Forum search is much improved now its using Google/DuckDuckGo by default

Child Friendly Bouldering Spots

Accessible, child friendly Lakeland Blocage

Bouldering with kids in Peaks

Seems its a regularly asked question, so I've created UKB Wiki : Child Friendly Venues (UK) to collect such information.  If those with kids + knowledge/opinion + time to bulk out the wiki can be bothered it would probably come in handy for when these questions pop up.

Shameless self promotion event number two today: In Boulder Britain I tried to note if a venue was child friendly. What I meant by this was if it would be a nice place for a picnic with no drops etc, irrespective of how long a walk it was.

Harmers wood would be great in summer - its nicely laid out and enclosed..(if you guard the exit there's no way out !)  Even MrsTT doesn't mind going there as she can sit under a tree and read..

It can be a wee bit broken-glassy at Harmer's. Not somewhere I'd let a babby crawl around.

C'mon then Grimer, what's your all time babby crag? I'm thinking basically teletubby/ nightgarden land, but with decent boulders. Castle hill meets a golf course, but just outside Leicester?

Glen Nevis Southside, Torridon, Ruthven, possibly Garheugh.

Yeah - it used to be fine - last summers party tent occupants (et al.,) seem to have added some glass sadly. A few of us spent some time clearing it up - and it gets a high amount of leaf litter accumulation so mightn't be as bad as when you were last there Naill - but its a fair point.

No-where near Wrexham, but I've always thought Secret Garden to be a good place to take a little'un (bit of a walk but not too bad..)
