The Search for Sugarman / Rodriguez

The release of this film has intrigued me, as I grew up listening to Rodriguez a fair bit in my teenage years, but I had no idea at the time he was pretty unknown outside of SA (apart from Australia by the looks of it)

Had anyone on here heard of him previously, and if so how did you find out about him?

Been listening to quite a bit about this on the radio, I'd never heard of him before now either. Amazing story, looking forward to the film.

Heard a track on 6 Music about a year ago I think; plus read about it in Uncut around the same time.

Didn't know he even existed before that.

Looking forward to seeing the film - the broadsheet reviews said it played a bit fast and loose with the facts but it still sounds good.

Interesting, as living in SA in the Apartheid era and a bit of a sanctions induced cultural bubble you assumed that the everywhere else everyone had access to and knew about everything.

First heard the track Sugarman on a David Holmes compilation album. The radio 4 thing reminded me to check out his other stuff. Some brilliant stuff like Cause and Sandrevan Lullaby-lifestyles. Look forward to seeing film.
