Child carriers
July 04, 2011, 05:42:22 pm
Our little one is only 3 months old, but his grandparents have offered to buy an all singing, all dancing child carrier rucksack thing. He's already got really good head control so I suspect by 5 months he will be fine in one of these things. So far we've used an Ergo on walks (did his first Lakeland fell the other week), though he's not psyched generally about being pressed in against his sweaty Daddy's chest and prefers to look outwards. Does anyone have any recommendations of child carriers and how useful they are generally? I've always been put off by them looking really heavy with loads of straps etc. We want something that we can take him for walks in, but I don't want to have to think about whether or not to chuck it in the car. I'd always assumed that Macpac were the Dogs' but maybe there are better makes/models out now? We'll use it from everything from getting around Font to walks in the Lakes/Peak. Any advice most welcome.

We got a Little Life S2.  Brilliant, very comfy for me and junior seems to love it.

It's got some extra storage which is useful for nappies, snacks etc. Only downside is it has a fairly bulky internal frame but that hasn't stopped us taking it on holiday (flights) with us.

Got it on eBay.  There were absolutely tons when we were looking.

I'd second the Little Life. Good range from cheap to not too expensive. We got one with a little bit of storage space too, it is bulky but not too heavy. Little ones always seem to enjoy it being up there, more then being strapped to the front.

wanted a macpac, then saw the price tag.

My brother gave me a cheap no frills version which I can't fault.  It's a Montis.  They get heavy quick. I started using it when it snowed (Jan?) and I've stopped now because she's too big and wants to walk.

Second IO2 on the Deuter in the pic. The ease with which you can pull rain cover / sun shade over is invaluable and it's super comfy for both rider and pack donkey on log walks.

Cool - thanks for the replies. Will check out the Little life but interested to hear about Deuter too. Need to get to Go Outdoors to try a few on. For anyone who's interested. The Outdoors Shop is selling cheap Macpac Vamoose http://www.theoutdoorshop.com/showPart.asp?part=PN90234

What you want to know about the Deuter? I can tell you the free teddybear is overrated and got snubbed.

Teddybear gratefully clutched in our household. Bought a Macpac Vamoose then saw the Deuter III - and swapped. It's awesome, in a rainy country, there's no contest. And I like the overall level of protection and shelter, particularly at neck level if ever there I were to fall carrying.

Macpac all the way, we've got one and it's great. hunt around on the net for cheap prices.

Definitely try them on first though, we got ours from http://www.littletrekkers.co.uk/ which is near Penistone just north of Sheffield
