Where to eat in Font
September 17, 2010, 01:00:10 pm
Simple really. Where can people recommend for reasonable food, at reasonable prices? A search brought up nothing obvious, and a Google search just brough up the same paragraph on three different websites.

Also, where would be good to have breakfast? Either, on the way from Calais to Font, or around Font itself?

Cheers

I guess it depends what you consider reasonable but I 've always enjoyed the food in the bar Franklin Roosevelt.

and the seafood place on the opposite side of Rue Montebello from FR

and check out the restaurant reccommendations in INSEAD's student handbook http://mba.insead.edu/student_life/documents/Handbook.pdf

the Indian's are a bit hit and miss, vary year to year

Saint-Omer is an interesting town not far from Calais, but might be a bit off the route for people keen to get to Font

If it's very early in the morning (less traffic) you could have a coffee etc in the middle of Paris (as long as you park in front of the café so you can watch your car get robbed)

Good link ta. The reviews seem to be pretty much in line with my experiences.

I'm sure someone asked this recently, poss fatdoc, but can't find thread now.

You want Font town, or general area?

There's a nice little restaurant in Milly, in the back right corner os the market square. Decent food, OK prices. Helps if you parlais, as there is no English menu.

Very nice restaurant just before the roundabout that takes you into the old town of Moret-sur-loing on the left hand-side of the road.

EDIT : Its called Gavotine.

:agree: Remember making the same recommendation, but can't find (or be arsed to look further) for the thread.

Get off the Autoroute - find a small town, cafe and have some croissant & coffee.. or Pain et beurre.. Not all cafe's will, but if they're open in the morning theres a high chance they'll have some croissant..
Some (many) patisseries have a coffee machine and couple of tables - so Coffee & pain au chocolat/raisan...

I don't know if it's still there but there was a nice creperie somewhere behind the square with the merry-go-round.
I think it must have been down rue st. honorè or the likes.
I bumped into it by chance, you basically eat in the living room of the owners.
really worth the search.

There's a turkish sitdown kebab shop on the road out of town on the way to the etap/champion. Its opposite a pizza joint. Does very nice lamb kebabs n shit. Looks a bit shonky from the outside.

Chez Guy is the pizza place of choice in Font for me. The pizza is good and Guy is a loon, awesome.
Sort of opposite-ish the cinema I think.

I'd say the resturaunt Bacchus attached to La Richlieu is always a sound bet, there's a good auberge in Samoreau, there was a place called the wooden horse which was ok too but can't remember where it is.

The place in Barbizon on the main road was very good (it's the one with virginai creepers all around it)

There's always the red book if you're up for a grand beouf

Ended up in here one wet evening;  Tiny place, packed out .... great crepes.

Milly La foret wise....Citronelle is good for a steak and fries (about €30 per head with wine and desert), the morrocan is overpriced and a bit bland, the pizza place on grand rue is ok and quite cheap and le cygne (just off the market place) i thought was quite pricey but quite good....I think that's the same one that SA Chris means.....

:agree: My brother and i tend to eat there whenever we're in Font. Good grub, reasonable prices (2 fixed price menus with different choices IIRC). the wine list is pretty good and very well priced but, in typical French stylee, they assume some expertise and list wines by region with no mention of red/white/rose!

There was nice restaurant in Moret sur Loing (within walking distance of the Formula1) - just on the left, not far into town after crossing the river.  Sorry I can't remember its name.  Food was traditional french fare - not especially cheap but still felt like decent value - quality ingredients, cooked simply and well.  I ended up eating there four times in a week.... I never knew that there were so many cuts of beef steak! (it put the UK choice of sirloit versus fillet to shame).

i've been quite a lot to the istanbul kebab house lagers, its decent food nothing special, about 6 euro's ish i think. unfortunately it seems i can't get an erection over food in the same way a lot of people on here can, i eat it and then i shit it out. it tastes ok or it doesn't. i have never had anything amazing to eat or to die for for that matter. seems i haven't lived.
