Effort indeed, the video confused me though, I got to 2:05 thinking but that's James, is it not? before it clicked that it wasn't mean to be a video of Scott doing it  :-[

Right, like we're supposed to trust a "news item" from UKC's premier bunch of vacuous, wittering, and cringingly naive teenage imbeciles...

Okay, maybe it's true, but least convincing news delivery method evar etc etc.

The lack of detail suggests it is similar to all Scott's other ascents....

Can't wait till Ryan and the gang start "proceedings" for breach of copyright. There's a lot of stuff there that looks suspiciously Ctrl-C to the Ctrl-V.

On the whole though -

I've heard independently, from a knowledgeable party, that it is true. Why does everyone assume that anything that involves Scott is a lie?

Well you can take me out of the everyone who assumes that what Scott has claimed is a lie but please feel free to firmly put me in the camp where belief is suspended till some sort of proof is put up to make me believe anything other than that!

To be honest I really hope he proves me (and a few other people) wrong but he is pulling some fucking big numbers in very impressive style with no witnesses and my bullshit detector is taking a severe beating at the minute what with me me being the cynical old bastard that I am!!

I've heard independently, from a knowledgeable party, that it is true. Why does everyone assume that anything that involves Scott is a lie?

A number of reasons: (In my Honest Opinion)

- He has always operated at a level inside so far below what he is claiming outside it is incomprehensible, from my experience

- He has never provided any 'evidence' (photos/vid/eye witness accounts) for any of his 'groundbreaking or worlds class' ascents

- No one has seen him out and about trying the things he's recenty claimed, and therefore no one has seen him doing any of them

- My bullshit detector is in danger of spilling over and creating a stream not seen since Si O'conner forgot to get his septic tank emptied

So.....

Enlighten us to the knowledgable party (what does that even mean? Sounds like chinese whispers to me) and their eye witness account, vid, pics and I will start to cross of the doubts from my list.... I hope to be proved wrong along with the 'majority'

You mean no-one you know?

One day he may come out from under the radar, but for now, it's all based on faith.

I've posted an explanation of how evidence should be considered and or applied to doubted claims, in this case the article implies that there are spotters, while the random spotter phenomena is not unknown the more often the situation arises the less plausible the claims become.  The level of performance inside is relevant but not conclusive, some people operate better outside than in and vice versa.

As I've said before I think the default position should be that we accept the claim unless there's reason not to, and reading the above I think we're getting towards that grey area and we have certainly reached the point where it is proper to say in the absence of positive evidence the claim may not be accepted.

Well put although I'd disagree slightly with.........

The level of performance inside is relevant but not conclusive, some people operate better outside than in and vice versa.

........as it depends on the disparity between the performance inside and the feats claimed outside.

Note: I know nothing about the case in question.

I don't think the inside performance is a real issue, and theres plenty of other people who've seen him at the works being a beast. I fell off some brown problems the other day, so what.

The issue of details, spotters, witnesses is what is relevent to cases like this where things are thrown into doubt for whatever reason etc.
