gulp :'(
I can't believe I'm doing this...
we need to reduce our outgoings; which includes changing down to being a one car family and Mrs Starfish doesn't like driving Jolene (WTF!)
1995 Chevy Astro All Wheel Drive 4.3l petrol with LPG conversion
my insurance was £438 this time round
automatic
left hand drive
pretty damn scruffy cosmetically (that's why I'm not asking for £5k+), but drives well - no rust
extremely comfortable leather seats, full blinds, groovy internal lights
electric bench seat - converts into comfy bed
mid seats turn round if needed to make a bigger bed and are very easily removable for transporting washing machines, mobility scooters etc
all pipes, tubes and belts replaced when I got it 3 1/2 years ago
MOT and tax till November
no idea about price... first £2.5k gets it for definite, but as time goes by I'll have to accept a lower offer
I'm writing this as quickly as possible before I chicken out, so haven't got any pics ready
Google will probably let you know if this is the vehicle for you
more details and pics to follow
owch :'(

I put Mrs S through so much shit - the bust ankle being the latest on the heap - that I'll do anything to make her happy
this is the 2nd gen model 1995- 2005
-
Mrs S.
I like the fact that Starfish is your surname and your first name is Lager
-
drives well in the snow, even without snow tyres or chains

I'm fairly certain somewhere amongst the organised chaos that is our beloved forum there is a photo of the lagersbus but I can't find it.
Anyhoo. What colour is it out of interest?

Found it

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
:(
It does gurgle like a drug dealers speedboat fed on a mixture of nitrous oxide and rothmans ;)
-
Quick before the missus catches me...what's the internal layout of this thing? And what sort of fuel consumption are you getting? Would be nice to keep it in the community - it seems nearly as well loved as you ;)
-
I've been longing after one of these bad boys for ages, wish I could justify it!
-
also considering letting this drive away awning go with it
(http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/2777/dscf1454small.jpg)
and this bike rack
(http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2625/dscf1643small.jpg)
apologies for not getting any proper internal pics yet, I'll need a hand moving seats back into place because I am a useless cripple

mpg...
typically I get 15mpg doing gentle town driving in Sheffield (hills), less if I drive like BA Baracus. how you drive these things makes a huge difference to fuel use
fully laden with 4 people, baby equipment, 2 weeks worth of shit and 3 bikes on the back I did 350 miles on the motorway on 65 litres of LPG traveling at 60ish mph (cruise control) doing very little overtaking- that's about 24mpg
with the middle seats out (heavy fuckers) and just me and pads and travelling at 56mph, I can squeeze a bit more out of it . but still not the 30mpg that some people claim (maybe possible on petrol instead of LPG)
wind resistance is significant, so speeds over 65mph give noticeably worse mpg
some stuff written here
http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,16645.0.html (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,16645.0.html)
LPG tank takes 65 litres
I think the petrol tank takes 100 litres
so it could be possible to do 900 miles without stopping for fuel - that's Sheffield to Chamonix, or Dover to Font and back (with some forest driving) - worth thinking about for the next time that there's a fuel shortage in France
-
it goes without saying that LH drive makes driving in the rest of Europe very easy
-
that bike rack could hold quite a few bouldering pads - and with 7 people sharing the fuel costs, you could have a rather good font trip...
-
you can't take LPG vehicles through The Tunnel
Norfolk Line ferries let this van, with bike rack, go on for normal car price
I have a French LPG connector/adapter to go with the van
-
one of the contributing factors to not having this as our only car is that on classic car insurance it is now difficult (expensive) to get cover for work use (having your mileage paid and that sort of thing)- I do occasionally have to use a car for work (so that I can get back in time to collect kids etc) - I've opted for private use only (£438 fully comp inc European cover and basic RAC)
obviously driving to and from your usual place of work is not a problem
phone MCE insurance to get a quote to help you decide
I'd be surprised if it was possible to insure drivers under 25
-
right - sorted some photos
I was surprised to find that mileage is actually less than 69k

I'll go out when it's dark to get some shots of the "mood lighting"
I also have the clothes rail that goes in the back - ideal for keeping the tux/ball gown ready for the after party

I so wish I could find a reason/justification for why I need to have this machine

front seats adjust forward-back, up-down and tilt - all electric
also have adjustable lumbar support

24 mpg is very good for fully loaded on LPG.....LPG fucks MPG so far up the arse it needs a crowbar to get out.
Plenty of speakers there!
-
LPG fucks MPG so far up the arse it needs a crowbar to get out
I heard that on these engines it doesn't make such a big difference - I haven't felt like doing a long journey on petrol just for the sake of comparison
-
The difference between the petrol and lpg mpg in one of these vans is pretty negligible on a long journey ........ The difference in cost, however, is massive ........
-
Now we just need the shot of Lagers in the buff, greased up with Mazola, lounging under the mood lights. Surely we gave enough plywood that you can build a ramp to get you up onto that plush leather bed/rutting area in the back of the van Lagers....
-
I would like to express my gratitude to Percy (& The Works) for donating ply and to Grumpy for using it to build me an access ramp for my mobility scooter.
I will send Percy a photo as requested - for personal use only. I may grant permission for it to be used in the ladies changing room at The Works.
Grumpy can feel safe in the knowledge that he need never see such a photo.
-
Grumpy can feel safe in the knowledge that he need never see such a photo.
And that in itself is thanks enough ........

gone :wavecry:
I am now the proud owner of a beige Citroen Xsara Picasso (12 months blah blah, full history etc) - if you're going to go bland, you might as well do it properly - this is the most stealth chav-taxi in the hood - even I can't locate it on the street, let alone in Asda's car park
I also have enough money left over to get drunk for a month - although I am told that this may be ringfenced for the Fund for Moving Into a Significantly Better School Catchment
another positive thing is... well there isn't one really
-
 Bastard bastard insurance company bastards.

They still look shit don't they. :sorry:
-
Lot of turd polish used there.
-
It did give over 50mpg (it's a 1.6 petrol) on the round trip to Todmorden Cathedral of Bearded Power. I think the atmosphere tries to move out of its way to avoid being contaminated with Uncool - this results in very little air resistance. It may be because of the 50mph speed limit on the M62.
-
and to Grumpy for using it to build me an access ramp for my mobility scooter.
And I haven't heard a peep from you since ........
