Ive been taking glucosamine tablets for about 5 months based on the fact that i have fucked joints from an accident and that they were recommended to me by an orthopaedic surgeon on the basis that at least they wouldnt do me any harm. No other surgeon i have seen has ever said anything derogatory towards me taking them...
I take per day
1500mg Glucosamine (2KCL)
1200mg Chondroitin Sulphate
Does anyone else take it? And in what dose and in what form? Has anyone ever tried any liquid glucosamine? Obviously its going to be more digestable in this form. I tried dissolving the contents of a capsule into water this afternoon, and surprise surprise; it tasted awful and didnt dissolve particularly well...
Theres a thread similar on rocktalk but one usually gets a more polite and informed opinion here!

All the studies I have read have used 1500mg as a baseline. It does seem to have a positive effect, though its often hard to measure. I generally take 2000mg a day, morning and night. I try to cycle it every 3 months and have a break of at least one month as my body seems to get used to it.
The animal studies have been conducted by injecting glucosamine directly into the joints. Which leads me to believe that taking it orally is like 'pouring petrol on the side of your car with the petrol cap open', sure some of its going to work but most of it is wasted.
Like vitimins, glucosamine has a positive effect. Hard to tell the difference but still worth taking in my opinion. Omega 3 oils (cod liver) are probably a good bet for someone on a small budget
-
i think scouse mainlines glucosamine in disused stairwells.
-
The surgeon I saw said it'd helps to take glucosamine, cod liver oil, and bone stew
If I was Stew I'd look up this surgeon pronto and give him a taste of his own bitter medicine...

i'm on the case - i ain't having nobody 'bone' me..............

I'm constantly wacked up on glucosamine and i couldn't say if it's working or not. I take it with cod liver oil and all my old knee trouble is no more and my fingers are almost better (apart from the broken one).
-
What is glucosamine actually supposed to do? I've never really researched it.
How does it work?
-
out of interest - what's the cost of a tub of say 60 750mg tablets in the UK - I'm sure i'm getting charged the earth for the stuff out here
-
Healthspan was recommended on here a while back, here's the link:
http://www.healthspan.co.uk/shop/product.aspx?id=GL75
Pretty cheap really, £8 for 360 tablets, 750mg each. Glucosamine's a sugar used in rebuilding cartilage, but it isn't a source of energy (or fat), all the details are on that link. Unfortunatley tablets aren't a very good method of taking the stuff, liquid form is better but costs a bomb, as does anything with Chondroitin in it which also helps. I've taken it on and off, but not really sure what for, I honestly don't think it makes tendons heal any faster, more a placeabo effect (a la creatine), but £8 for 6 months is nowt really.
-
thats over half the price they cost out here - looks like my folks will be bringing it over by the barrel load when they come visit! cheers
-
more a placeabo effect (a la creatine)
I know this is digressing, but creatine's a bit different I think, because it's effectiveness will depend upon your "natural levels" of creatine.
It works very well for me, though that said I've stopped taking it for a while - I'd take a bit at the end of punishing Thai Boxing lessons to give me some pep, which may have been a factor in me knackering my plantar fascia which is showing little sign of healing
-
whilst on the 'sussing out uk price 'v' hk price' vibe - whats a bottle of creatine serum cost (like the one shown in the article on this site)in the UK??
May aswell get the folks to stock me up good and proper whenthey come over if its much cheaper - which judging by the difference for glucosamine it may well be
-
I get mine from here:
http://www.serumzone.co.uk/
Way cheaper than anywhere else I've found.
-
at 26 quid thats a fair chunk cheaper than the 50 odd they charge out here!
think i needs to start me a little import buisness up.....................
-
Don't think it justifies a new thread:
Where does everyone get their Glucosamine?
-
i wait till its half price at holland and barret.keeps 6 quid a month in your pocket to treat the mrs
-
I get mine here. (http://www.simplysupplements.net/product/348/glucosamine-sulphate-1500mg/?tracking=1stjan10) It's pretty cheap, I checked out a loads of places and they are fast to deliver with free P&P too.
I do think it helps, my knees are fucked (that's the technical term) and I've noticed a difference since I've been taking it.

That's a really good price, never heard of them before and I'm running low so just got a shitload. At the moment 360x1000mg is about half the price of 360x1500mg. Also you can apparently get 27.5% cashback through quidco.com
-
Good, eh? 8)
Very good indeed. Cheers for that.

I feel all useful now. :-[

where do you get it. all i can see is a little red cross.

Wow this is the first time I've seen a thread where the little ads at the bottom were actually dead useful...

You may as well take that. Although the dog version is unregulated, so you might be getting baking powder. Probably just as good though - and less likely to fuck with your insulin intake than glucosamine.
I don't get why you'd waste money on something that doesn't absolutely bugger all! I really should make a living selling sugar pills, but I'm not immoral enough. Now, penis enlargement pills - there's a thought...

Interesting comment that. I wonder how many people are aware that shoveling 1500mg of glucosamine daily, may end up giving them diabetes down the line. Of course it might be fine as well... :-\
