I see that Demdike Stare are playing in the basement. Their CD is great.... not techno by any means but brilliant spooky electronica. Would have been the perfect soundtrack to Kenneth Anger's 60's movies Scorpio Rising etc.

Been loving this thread.. hard drive is fully stocked with fresh tunes now.. particularly loving the Surgeon mixes

Just found this clip of THE lord Claude doing his thing at Tresor. For once the quality is reasonable, you can see what he's doing, he's spot on with the chopping and doesn't go overboard with it. Just how I remember him from the Orbit. Oh happy days. He even has a crafty toke too.

I too will see Mills (& DBX: Daniel Bell, minimal techno pioneer) this coming Friday.

When you study techno, you start to notice things. Mills is often so crap he's good. Trainwrecks and galloping beats are de rigueur, which is precisely what keeps me coming back for more; he over-stretches himself w/ abandon - sometimes serving up patterns so chronic - they're sublime.

Mills doesn't practice so often his mixing is shit.

I've always thought it a bit off when he's probably being paid several grand per appearance.

Not currently - it would have to be incorporated into the Aeva embed mod - it would be handy though.

I though Mills' mixing was pretty smooth actually, he seemed to be doing a lot of stuff with some other piece of kit (909?) and introducing new sounds very gradually. I hadn't drunk anything not even a red bull so I was pretty attentive to the music. I would have prefered a more raucous set myself but thought he crafted it pretty well. I prefered Dave Clarke though, his booty-shaking American filth stuff was well good.

The warm-up DJ before Dave Clarke wasn't as good and had a few clangs and mistakes.

You're right: when Mills is good he's a Techno General.

The problem w/ Mills is that he's far too comfortable (this can only be due to the €4 or €5000 per gig he's on) in his production. It's common knowledge that he's on the same gear he's been making music for the last decade or more. Like it or no, the most interesting (and that means current, undated) music is made w/ either a combination of hard and software or entirely on a computer. This ain't Neofolk - and the same rules do not apply.

I still like him though, as music w/ balls is hard to come by.

Right, I havent been reading this thread for ages, so apologies if this has been up already, but Dave Clarke has a podcast, its from his WhiteNoise radio show and is variable in quality, but has some good tracks on it, and a weekly guest mix. He introduced me (not personally, through the podcast) to Minimum Syndicat, and their bizarre brainwaves track (aceeeeeeeeeeeeeed!). Anyway, it wasnt that I meant to witter about, it was that my hero Chris Liebing's CLR podcast has been particularly good of late - there was a great Advent mix (LEGEND) a couple of months ago, more recently Mark Broom was good, but the reason for this post - there was a 9hr speedy j set a couple of weeks back. Granted the first 40 minutes are log, but then it gets good. Actually, clarify that, I am only 4 hrs in, so it might go log again.

And finally, this week its Adam Beyer. Its a good mix, and theres an option to download a 2hrs no talking version which I have done but not yet listened to. As the 2 includes the 1 and the 1 is good I can halfily recommend it.
