Is virgin 4g? Last time I checked it was 3g only.

Tesco is 4g on o2 network and allow tethering. They currently have some black friday deals with decent amounts of data for reasonable prices  http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-monthly/sim-only/Tesco+Mobile/simonly/tariff/?sku=44142&icid=Home-deal-SIMO_750-T3

Yes virgin is 4G, hence why they are advertising 4G deals.

Just a tip off that if you (like me) are on EE for Home Broadband as well as mobile, they're doing a deal where they will give you a shedload more mobile data into the bargain.

Going to call up and sort that out later.

Says only for existing or new mobile customers who sign up for broadband. Sounds like doesn't apply if you've already got both. Let us know if you get owt?

There are some mad deals happening at present. I was paying £36 per month for my phone and tablet. Now paying £31 per month, got an extra 3gb of data for mobile (5gb per month) and an extra 4gb on tablet (5gb also) and a free Samsung Galaxy 10 inch tablet.

Might be open to offers on tablet of anyone fancies it?

All sorted, though I was actually at the end of my broadband contract so I guess it was technically a renewal on the broadband.

All in I paid a year's landline rental upfront for 200 quid, the broadband is a reasonable 2.2 fuckalls a month, and I got the 5gb extra data allowance on my mobile as well.

Anyone else having battery life issues since the Sony Z5 Android 7 update? Mine has gone to shit, as have many other Sony users.

Considering flashing it with a custom ROM but I'm only 5 months into my warranty....

When the next update comes out, definitely backup your phone first as you might want to revert to the old OS. Mine's a compact too.

just got myself the new Moto G5

a bit bigger than I would ideally have wanted, but Mrs Starfish's old Moto G has been so reliable and usable that I was prepared to put up with a larger unit

seems pretty good so far - works great

I initially regarded the fingerprint scanner as an unlikely to work gimmick - it worked great until I did a bit of washing up or climbed a bit of grit, at which point it didn't seem able to read my fingers - I tried adding my post grit index finger as a new finger, but it couldn't read it to build a profile

using my left thumb seems to work; both for position and less loss of skin

the low friction screen (compared to a 4 yr old Xperia SP) makes swiping a pattern pretty quick and reliable, so the fingerprint thing isn't very important

the whole phone seems to be a bit smooth and slippery (and therefore droppable), but I'll be putting it into a case in the next couple of days

I'll keep you informed of future issues

just cottoned on to the deal that a fingerprint scanner lets you wake up and unlock a phone with one touch; compared to previous method of press a button and then swipe a pattern

left thumb working fine for this

the device is still unable to read grit ravaged finger tips 20 hrs after the event

The fingerprint scanner on my iphone works great, but a session on a particularly savage gritstone pinch can confuse it, but otherwise all good. VERY handy for logging into internet banking, paypal apps etc.

Without wishing to sound like Slackbot Jnr - I've been investigating this as part of my work - turns out spoofing the fingerprint scanner isn't too hard.

good thinking - I'll make a model of my fingerprints just in case my phone locks me out when I want to spray about my latest gritstone conquests

Currently thinking about upgrading from my HTC One M8 which is slowly going all wobbly. A few questions:

  • What's the replacement to the M8? Is it the Desire?
  • Can anyone recommend a phone with the following:
    • Android
    • Good camera (the HTC One M8 is a very good camera)
    • 32gb internal with external slot
    • Decent screen size (larger than iPhone) so I can read the thing.

Thanks!

Pixel XL could be a good option. One of the best cameras on an android phone, pure android that will get upgraded, quad hd 5.5" screen.

Is 32gb however this cannot be expanded with a memory card. This may not be an issue though as you get free online storage for any photos taken on the pixel stored on Google Drive for free.

Currently available with large discount (https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/google/pixel-xl.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwo4jOBRDmqsavuLfl9CYSJAAFY1ox2U1zePIBCs06nVu2JKcymNyUktDJrwcKM9r4EaW-WBoCEJ3w_wcB&cid=PAIDSEARCH_Google_Google+-+Pixel+XL_Core+-+Phrase_pixel+xl_40101182942&s_kwcid=AL!2047!3!213950698030!p!!g!!pixel%20xl&device=m&ef_id=VtvpbAAAAXGfkRF1:20170920140732:s#!colour=black&capacity=32GB&dealType=sf) as the pixel 2 is just about to be released.

Liking my Moto Z. Got a good price on Amazon. Great battery life if you buy the moto mod add on. 32gb and internal SD card. Also considered Honor or One Plus 5.

Had a look around and the Huawei P10 is tickling my fancy. Anyone got one?

Seriously considering splashing out for a huge SD card and replacing my iPod too.

colleague has a p9 that he's very happy with.  I was thinking seriously about one.. but found an s7 on ebay that was from currys/pcworld refurb outlet. half price (350) unlocked. 14 day return policy and when it turned up.. it was essentially unboxed but never used.
