Nothing will ever beat sitting outside at the cafe on evening at Travellers Rest in Rocklands, only to have Fred Nicole majestically appear out of the darkness while this was playing over the speakers:

It brought a tear to all of our eyes.

Have a few for this:

Chatted (up) to Sasha Digiulian in Ceuse as I was belaying my mate dogging the shit out of a 6b on toprope...

Said hello to Adam Ondra as he walked the other way in Slovenia, he replied by looking away  :slap:

Jonny Dawes came up to me in Burbage inspecting definitive 5.12 and asked me if I had any pads to try it with him. I ran off to grab pads, he was gone when I returned  :'(

Fell off an E1 finger crack in Millstone and inverted with a shriek. Tom Randall ran round the corner and asked if I was ok...

Not sure if I have any more...

Johnny Dawes walking back from Burbage S: "Are you going CLIMBING? What's it like? Do you get very high?" Everyone stayed in character for a good 2 or 3 minute chat and went on our way.
Kim Carrigan gave me a pair of the world's stiffest boots in a hut in Capel Curig. Wore them for ages and then swapped feet and wore them out again the wrong way round.
Inventing slacklining on a car park chain in Font and making a passing Grimer laugh
Royal Robbins flogging pants in a Vermont gear shop
Johnny Dawes being gifted Prof Popp's project in Harmer's Wood. He sold me a book. And a DVD.

haha funny thread,

Playing guitar with some Belgians in Camp 4, turned out to be Sean Villanova & Nico Favresse

Watching some kid cruise Left Wall, turned out to be Megos

Turning up at my friends house, turned out she was living with Dawes, spent all afternoon doing a jigsaw with him. Next time I saw him, he made me belay him.

Bridwell in a Joshua Tree campsite. What a guy

My friend had a good one, he was asleep on Awahnee Ledge on the Leaning Tower. Was woken up by Honnold 'dropping in' from above & they spent a few days together whilst he was working on Wet Lycra Nightmare

Don't be fooled. The wall left of the corner is just one conditions dependent move and not as sustained as The Dark Ark.

I thought Andy did the FA of TDA?

In that case - I'm a climber in one of the crag pics in Boulder Britain. That's me hungover, sporting a pink / turquoise stripy polo shirt on a 3+ warmup at Caley by Otley Wall.

Also, at the Broadfield playing pool downstairs before the Jerry Ape Index lecture. Leaning over table and lining up my shot I looked down the cue to see the man himself stood there glancing round the room looking for someone. I shanked the shot.

Oh now, forget I mentioned anything :)
Yes, Andy was being very generous with his project ...and subsequently did it himself AFAIK. I'll get me Helly.
JD did have his mobile shop in his sac though.

EDIT - can you punter yourself?

I'm sure the man himself will see this at some point and clear up this confusion!

I was recently in Verdon to arrange some business details, with lots of spare time but no climbing partner.

While driving to la palud for a selfbelay session, I pick up a random hitchhiker.
Happens to be 9a/freerider/desert 5.13 climber (verified)
We go straight to escalés and we both get spanked by the most sandbagged 7a+ on the planet!!! :D

After I first cleaned TDA I, for some unknown reason, told Johnny he could have first dibs. But then when he broke his leg I thought blow that for a game of soldiers and did it myself.

A few years back I was celebrating in the Vaynol arms with my mates, having done my first and second E1's (terrifying, I actually skipped the HVS grade). Jonny Dawes walks up to me and tries to sell me a signed copy of his book and his DVD. I had no idea who he was at the time and told him I had no money.

Last year nearly fell off the 2nd pitch crux of Grim Wall Direct while Nick Bullock had the biggest fall I've ever seen trying Strawberries. Our ropes got stuck on the abseil and his belayer shouted up at him to free our ropes (he didn't hear :( )

Toprope soloing on the southern sandstone a few years back and a bunch of 'old' guys borrowed my guidebook. They take turns looking at all of the pictures and it turns out they're the actual authors. One of them gave me a belay by holding my rope in his bare hands and I actually fell off my project. I was shitting myself! He held me and made it look easy

Got a 'well done mate' from Callum Muskett after climbing Left Wall a few weeks back  :great:

Sat two tables down from Caff in the pub on Lundy. He's tiny!

He's bigger when you're sat on the table next to him.

Ah, reminded me of one more! Caff taught me to trad climb on a plas y Benin course. What great to climb with a legendary climber for four days. Had to lump it with Andy Turner on day five [emoji16]

in Yorkshire

maybe I should put all my vids onto DVD and try selling them at the crag?

Double wad tick at Fairhead - both times Honnolded!

First one was belaying on The Mask (a great fun and low in the grade E5). Some guy was standing on the adjacent promontory taking some photos of us. I waved. His mate wandered over and gave us a thumbs up. The mate was Honnold!

A couple of days later we were a bit trashed from 4 days non-stop climbing so decided to have a "lazy day" top-roping the bold, but not strenuous,  - E6  Hell's Kitchen Arete.  After a few goes and a check of the gear we both decided to have a cheeky headpoint. Graham went first, then I did the deed after him. Just as I was belaying Graham up for a second time to strip my gear, Alex popped round the corner and asked what we were on:

AH: "Hey, what's that, it looks kinda fun"
Me: "Hell's Kitchen Arete, it's great, and now it's clean and chalked. You should do it"
AH: "awesome, yeah, that's a 5 or a 6 isn't it"
ME: [thinking huh, 5 or 6??] "ah, yeah, E6 but we top roped it first"

Later that day he apparently onsighted it (on a rope) before doing his soloing thing on The Complete Scream.

Because saying the letter E in front of a number takes a lot of effort?
