New York, New York!
November 01, 2006, 11:54:19 am
Going to New York in December for 10 days, not really a climbing trip but wouldnt mind having a day or something, after all 10 days no climbing is a lot! Haha.

I know there is the Gunks but wont be able to get there very easily and i know you can boulder in central park but cant find a topo anywhere.

Anyone know of anywhere worth going or would a break just be better?

Cheers David

I was there at Easter, and had 2 days of semi climbing.

Shit topo here http://www.climbnyc.com/ to download with all stuff in New York. Weird routes grades though!
Rat rock is about the best and that pretty bad. Good V10 of Ivan Greenes though, but needs cool temps. Should be ok at Xmas. Was boiling at Easter. ITs the undercut start on the right side or Rat Rock. Pretty obvious as its the only decent looking problem there.

Failing that, get the bus to jersey beach, and get on the boulder you seen on Dosage 2. Or is it 3? Thats pretty good, though i dont know of a topo. Lots of girls to perv at. Though might be a bit chilly in December. Other stuff you see in DVD looks cool, but not sure on locations. You could email Josh Lowell for info, or even Ivan Greene if you have contact details.

Hope this helps.

I thought he'd just started spreading the news, even though he isn't leaving today.

Sorry, no useful info either.

If you're really keen, there is better bouldering in Bear Mountain state park, which is about an hours bus ride from the city.   I can provide you a bit more info if you need it.

In any even it'll be pretty damn cold by then, and possibly (hopefully) iced up.  Your best bet is to sit in the pub.

Happy travels

Maybe the UKB needs to start a guidebook library.

Now linked from the UKB Wiki (along with links to  online topos).

Maybe the UKB needs to start a guidebook library.

One of the reasons I always add links to topos/books to existing and new areas to the Wiki.  ;)

No, I mean physical guidebooks, not online stuff. List of guidebooks you are prepared to loan out, borrower pays postage if applicable plus payment of a donation of couple of quid to Mountain Rescue or something. I've got 30 or so guidebooks on my shelf that never get used. Just a thought, lead balloon probably.

  :sorry: my misunderstanding.

If anyone ever needs a guidebook to Margaret River (Western Australia) I've a copy.

Think its a good idea actually Chris, I've got a shelf of guides of varying obscurity that rarely if ever get used.
