Smokin' Aces was on TV the other night. Star studded cast, shit studded plot. Shame, was OK in places and could have been quite good, but basically a mess.

I thought Interstellar was quality. Spectacle combined with human emotion, doesn't matter to me that some of the science is speculative. No one makes blockbusters as bold and thought provoking as Nolan IMO.
I watched it last week and generally enjoyed it. The mixed reviews had done a good job of lowering my expectations and I wasn't disappointed. Some of it you have to just 'go with' but it didn't spoil it for me. It had elements of both Oblivion and Prometheus to it.

I really rate Matthew Mcconaughey, so glad he's moved on from the terrible rom coms which was all he was doing a few years back.

The Imitation Game, good film. The Hawking one next I think

Imitation game looks good. Saw a trailer for the Hawkin one and it nearly made me vomit in a soft focus Cambridge affectation...

Don't worry I offset these with stuff like The Raid 2 and Ip Man just to restore order  ;)

It always reminds me of "The Long Big Punch Up" sketch from the Fast Show.

The second one was such a travesty I'm not planning to bother with the third.

Watched Nightcrawler last night.

It's about a guy in LA who is looking for a job/purpose and stumbles upon the morally dubious world of filming horrific accidents/crimes which happen over night, and then selling those films to news companies.

The whole film is centred on this guy (Jake Gyllenhall [sp?]) and the focus is on his character as well as the morally dubious nature of his activites and how far he is willing to push them.

All of the acting, particularly that of the lead, is great, and the whole thing felt very atmospheric and stylish. The story constantly develops and keep you interested.

Probably the best film I've seen this year.

I'd second that I though night crawler was the best film I've seen for ages, it was so good that it left my girlfriend slightly disturbed for a few days.

I finally got to watch Zero Dark Thirty which, whilst not as good as my high expectations of it, was actually really enjoyed by my wife. So, lads, don't be afraid of warterboarding your other half until she agrees to watch it with you, as I had to, she'll thank you later. Making the central character a strong female helped, I think.

Good, gonna watch that next.

The theory of everything - very good, obviously shocked at the end when he parachutes in and kills all the bad guys!

Got recommended The Secret Life of Walter Mitty this week.

Was a decent watch if you're after something not very taxing on the brain.

Gomorra was an excellent recommendation. Absolutely brutal!

The guy who wrote it (still in hiding living under a new identity) did a TV series that's just as good, if not better.  It's on Sky if you have it.

I did actually mean the TV series but I posted in the wrong thread. I might check out the documentary now though.

Has there been any mention of a second series?

Aha... Well the film is great too :-)

I read somewhere that there is second series in production.

It better be as I've been suffering withdrawals after we watched the whole thing in about three nights.

The film is excellent and equally grim.

Under the Skin might be amazing but also possibly rubbish. Not sure yet, still thinking about it. Whatever it's the strangest film I've seen in a while. Beautifully shot. Cleverly made (don't read up on it too much if you are going to see it)
