Font Campsite Reccomendations
January 04, 2018, 12:23:54 pm
I've had a search of the forums and not found anything very recent so here's one for the UKB collective.

I have the happy task of trying to organise a trip to Font in May for a big group of folk and I'm looking for campsite recommendations.  Cheapish, good facilities, close to bouldering across the grades and tolerant of a group of 15 or so people and low key(ish) party scenes would be ideal.

Cheers for any help!

I would highly recommend getting a large gite instead.

I normally go with a group of 14-18 and the difference in price between camping and a large gite is usually around £1-2 a day per person (we once had 18 in a 14 person gite so it ended up being even cheaper than camping).

Party-wise, there are plenty of gites with large, open planned, kitchens/living rooms and if you're lucky you may even find one with table tennis.

Cheers, 36C, that had crossed my mind.  Any gite reccomendations or websites to book through, or am I as good just googling?

Les Pres in Grez-Sur-Loing is a decent campsite option. I’ve stayed there multiple times in big groups, facilities are decent and the owners are friendly.

It’s not as close as some places to the boulders, but it’s not a problem if you’ve got transport :)

I've stayed at this place a few times, but not for 5 years or so :-

http://gite.forges.free.fr/

There's two gites so deals with a large number of people well.

www.homeaway.co.uk is our go to site for gites. The GF is the chief gite organiser, she has an OTT spreadsheet but I don't have access to it so can't really tell you where we've been.

Awesome, UKB delivers once again.  Glad to hear about the OTT spreadsheet.  My wife is a specialist in similar matters.

I have borne witness to the spreadsheet and can attest to its ridiculous level of complexity.
It includes fields to enter in the distance between each gite and the parking of Cuvier, Franchard, Apremont, and Trois Pignons. It then takes this information and calculates rough petrol costs for the week's travel and accounts for this in determining which is the cheapest accommodation. That super cheap gite next to Petit Bois isn't looking quite so frugal now is it?

Forget whatever unprofitable nonsense she's done her PhD in, if she makes that spreadsheet into an app you can both buy a holiday house in the forest and retire there early.

Anyone know if the floods have affected any of the campsites out there?

I normally stay at Grez sur Loing.  However, what does low key party scenes mean? I plan to stay here in May with some other families ;).

A gite would work out really cheap for 15 people.
