Climbing specific "core" exercises.
December 17, 2017, 05:52:07 pm
Right folks, I'm going to put more focus on my core this winter season. Obviously I can do all the standard things:

Front Level Progression
L-sits
Side planks
Mountain climbers
Scallops

But I would like to incorporate some climbing specific movement based core. I'm thinking of stuff on the 45 board? Any pointers?

I'd add ab wheel progressions if you can, blows any other core exercise I've done out the water.

As well as training keeping feet on on a steep board, I find monkey bars at the local playpark good for focussing on core work, as fingers normally give out on the 45 deg before core does.

There is a recent video on the "resources: training" thread of Will Anglin "Body Tension" training which sounds like the sort of thing you are after...

I was going to ask exactly the same question. Do you think training wearing some ankle weights would be beneficial.

I've got a steep board, and do go through phases with ankle weights. It definately helps long term for core, but I also find my feet actually stay on footholds better with ankle weights! I don't know if it's due to more weight by the foot, or psychological! But I've definitely done some of my harder routes with them on
