Winnats Pass completely flooded...
September 15, 2017, 02:06:42 pm

..... with light.

Could be good (or crap actually).  Might take the kids out though.

Note the road closure times.

if the weather is good (no or little wind, you need the fake fog to see the light/water) go the first evening.
when it was on in amsterdam a while ago, the first evening was great, as there were only a few people there.
every night after the crowds grew exponentially.

We'll,  last night was bit 'Meh'

Was a perfect night for it, with little or no wind.  Drove past the parking carnage between the garage and the bottom turn off and kept going up the old Mam tor road.  Loads of parking really near speedwell - (there's a little car par that still had spaces up there!!).

Was a nice atmosphere amongst the crowd and the kids enjoyed the sense of adventure. But the installation itself was largely underwhelming.

4 lasers creating a wave effect just above the road, 8 smoke machines and 2 very dull orange lamps lighting up a patch of steep grass.  I was expected a whole bunch more spot lights, lighting up shining tor, the shield, the ridges etc.  Ho Hum.

You weren't allowed off the side of the road much, nor up the road 'above' the lasers.  I'm guessing it might of looked quite good from right up on top of the shield. (i.e. park and walk in from the top).

General impression was it wasn't as good as the laser in the orbit in 94.  :dance1:

Cheers for posting that Sam.
I was quite looking forward to it but I'm not sure now

We went tonight and thought it was excellent. Get there early, go to the pub for a bit and walk up once it's dark. The audio was interesting but probably best if you download an ocean soundtrack and some breakbeat/ your favourite variety of electronic music. Walk up to the top slowly and keep turning around. It rained a little bit and actually wished it had rained more as it shimmers  in the lasers. Recommended
