This is the one I was looking for. They were still doing 250+ kph on those tires. And on those big balls of theirs.

Installed this nice app on my phone, Geo Tracker. Tracks your route and makes funny and useless stats like these. Very useful for the cafe racer that has no tacho, no speedo, no nothing.

Pervhaps Nibs

That's an amazing transformation, apart from the seat unit, it's practically indistinguishable.

Glorious.

Oops.  :-[

The devil is in the details.

I appreciate that this defiles the spirit of this thread, but this wonderful machine reminds me of the colour of Big Ron's trackies on The Prow:

Amazing

"It's worth every single penny" - was this pre or post pound madness?

A 450k spend should come with an exclusion zone of approx 0.5k, you wouldn't want some numpty on their mobile getting anywhere near it.

You must have an awful lot more money than me Kelvin, to be fretting over the numbers! I think it's a beautiful bit of kit.

Anyway, enough of this sacrilege!

I always had a thing for the old "slabby" GSXR.

I remember following one over the Denbigh Moor road to North Wales. He knew the lines, I didn't. I exited a blind right hander over a crest, and was showered with glass. It was like being in a Star Wars movie. He'd gone for it, overtaking over the crest, managing to wipe out the wing mirrors of the cars in both directions. Nutter!  :devangel:

Why the line right of "Slingshot"/Blind Vision at Froggatt should be called "Slabby". Would be excellent  ;)  :

Work in progress, removed the black paint from the radiator fan, only a few bits left where it's nearly impossible to reach. Will paint the cage with alu/silver paint soon.
It's already quite shiny!  :dance1:

Mounted the new polished alu radiator and the painted fan, then moved the key block to the side.
IMG_20161201_145447 by Nibile, on Flickr

Liking the look of it.
IMG_20161201_145200 by Nibile, on Flickr

The top is now clean, with the steering plate soon to be replaced with a new CNC machined one.

Next moves are more on the mechanic side, new chain/sprockets, new discs and new brake pads.

Just in case anyone's interested, Yamaha is presenting the new bikes for 2017 MotoGP, live from Madrid on Facebook. Lots of talking until now, bikes still covered.

Passed mod 1 today! OT but doesn't quite count as a YYFY until mod 2 is safely in the bag too. Still, psyched!

Visited the mechanic this morning, good progress! Very happy!

New seat and tail section, same line as the old one but narrower and connected to the tank.

Another view of the tail section, plus new chain and sprockets.

New discs and brake pads. Old seat and tail in the background.

New CNC machined Ergal top steering plate, soon to be mounted with a CNC aluminium top yoke nut.

Didn't manage to take pics, but also the aluminium side panels and bottom tail cover are almost ready!
YYFY.

"Soon to be mounted..." Despite still not having the new CNC top yoke nut! As it seems, the mechanic's more impatient than I am... Good going!

Nice.
That steering plate is a tasty looking thing.
And I like the new seat unit, it definitely ties in with the tank more pleasingly than the old seat IMHO.
I had a look round a mates unit last week, it's rammed full of bikes and cars in various states of disrepair (the man is a serious hoarder). I was tempted to make him an offer on a Ducati languishing at the back. I could probably afford the bike, but not the subsequent divorce...

I've just got my bike back from it's pre-season service and fettle, the wife and kids are away for a couple of days....

and it's a weekend of wall to wall rain  >:(

Hey ho

I was serious about the open invitation for accomodation Nibs so feel free to take me up on it  :)
