3rd go, then I'll call it quits - I hadn't realised this was according to repeatability according to on peak rock
Q18 Highest to lowest
Revelations; the end of the affair; Knockin' on heaven's door; Mecca, the mid-life crisis; Hubble; Parthian shot

4 out of 6. Good effort. Correct order was:

Parthian
Hubble
Knockin'
Mecca
EOTA
Revelations

25 is the Cat and Fiddle on the A537.

Yes, yes and yes. You should definitely round up a team for next year.

In hindsight the quiz was probably pitched a little bit hard.

Nonsense. The table distributions need sorting out for next year (it wasn't all UKB fault as a certain BMC exec joined that table) but the best team only got about twice the points of the worst and the hillwalker table did OK, so I'd say spot on. Pretty much everyone got a prize and I liked taking the tiny (less than a fraction of a person, cf the millions in team UKB?)  bottom team up second.

 :agree:

Howabout teams of 6 or 8.   Both times I've attended the quiz, its been great fun, and pitched about right, there were questions that I would never have got, yet someone on our team knew and visa versa. Since I've ended up on tables where I don't know half the people on the table, its been a good to meet some folks and put names to faces etc.  Mixing it up in future a bit would be a good exercise in folks meeting other folks they might not otherwise mingle with.

We on only had 4 people in our team and I felt did very well, only coming a handful of points behind the winning team which despite all the joshing above, had easily twice the number of members of the next biggest team, but hey, like the murphys...  :P

I think the UKB table would have still won if there was only a certain 4 people on it (myself not included)  :-[. They only came second last year so it is possible to beat them. Quiz was great, it's not easy and I think you did a fine job.

Some years one person might even have won it on his own. Moff was chuffed to bits when she knew something no one else did on the UKB table a few years back and she is no slouch.

Looks like everyone has given up on the rest of the quiz, can we have the rest of the answers now?

I'd forgotten about this. A few guesses on old ones :-

Q2: Kinder, Woodhead, Edale, Buxton, Glossop (reasonably sure on these) plus somewhere south Peak (Matlock?) and somewhere for Chew/Black Hill (Holmfirth, Uppermill?)

Q17: Ullswater, Thirlmere, Wastwater, Buttermere

Q2: 5/7. You've got the prime areas right for the other 2, but not the names.

Q17 - Boom. 4 points

I'll give it till the weekend then I'll post the rest of the answers

Q19: Looks like Dovedale, so is the hill Thorpe Cloud? I'll guess Tissington Spires for the crag.

Q21: Brown's Crack at Ramshaw (Joe), don't know the other.
Tissington Spires and maybe Stoney for John Peel
Stanage for one of the Overhanging Cracks

Q22: The reservoir below Dovestones Edge? Can't remember the name

Q24: Kilian Jornet and Al Rouse, don't know either book name.

Question 23:
Quote
Shauna: over-caffeinated sugary drink company. Motivation and encouragement neatly contained in a can. Perfect for those morning sessions that feel impossible

In reply:

Caff: Only a tramp would have that in the morning

Yep - smackhead... good effort that. One of those that you either know or don't.  I would never have got it in a million years.

Between you and Stabbsy you've got 6 of them: Kinder, Buxton, Oldham, Woodhead, Edale & Glossop. One more to find. I know for a fact someone in the room that evening has used this team's services so I hope they got it right at least!

The answer I was looking for was Dovedale and the hill is indeed Thorpe Cloud. Given the slightly ambiguous wording of the question I would have awarded points for other answers* (apart from to the UKB team, who rather smugly identified the bouldering location I was stood at when the photo was taken).
*judges decision is final

Indeed. Props to Rob Greenwood for that question
