How far to drive to train?
July 16, 2015, 08:29:32 am
I've just taken down my training boards, had a really great set up, eight miles from home. I'm now contemplating a 50 minute drive to go training. Someone make me feel better and say that's not so bad!  :)

Being in the far south west of Cornwall has many good things going for it, training facilities of any kind are not one of them though.

I live in the black hole of Taunton so for all climbing and/or training needs I either have to drive to Bristol or Exeter

45 minutes into birmingham for me. Total ball ache, still manage it 4 times a week usually.

I'd give my right testicle (the small one)  to have my own training boards.

Reinstate the boards.

Believe me it's not through choice they have had to come down. I've built four set ups before and this time I feel that I've lost the will to find another venue and build again.

It's depressing, I'm mourning :(

Why not open a small wall locally. It's not as hard as you think.

I walk between 4 and 8 seconds to get to the board, depending on which room of my house I leave from.
But I don't fucking complain about it on UKB. Man up.

FWIW I live well over an hour (given traffic at the times of day I can train) from nearest decent wall. Ive got a trango hangboard and some rings and so just do a Stevie Haston for my training (without the 9as). Im obvs shit, but i can still make micro strength gains like this. At the weekends i obvs try and do a bit on rock or at a climbing wall somewhere.

bin off the driving; at minimum put a couple of skinny wooden rungs up,  get a screw out pull up bar and some rock rings, and a stopwatch.

Marazion, near Penzance. The last set up was a kind of collective and worked fairly well. But the farmer wanted his barn back!

I'm similar to Nibs 4 to 8 secs depending on whether I get drink bottle as I go through the kitchen on the way to the garage. However I often fail to make the journey and end up in the pub 5 mins.

There must be other farmers round there who'd appreciate a little extra cash for renting a barn.. (unless that actually was the last unconverted barn in Cornwall and the rest are now holiday cottages)
