5.10 Hiangle
July 02, 2015, 06:17:46 pm
Anyone got a pair of these? Thoughts? I'm interested in whether the heels are any better than the Team heels as I'm at my wits end with those...

The heel is pretty similar to the Team to be honest. They're not great shoes really unless you're getting them in really small sizes perhaps. When you get up to my size (wear 10uk Street) they are very symmetrical and unprecise.

I got mine really cheap so use them for training indoors as they are really comfortable due to being sosymmetrical.

Ok cheers. I like Teams but I have to put another shoe on every time a tricky heelhook comes along

Heels are a big improvement on teams for me. Fit them small though as they stretch a lot being non synthetic. I got mine too big and can't really stand on things very well. Heel hooking is great though

If you have a low volume heel, then the heel is definitely an upgrade.  Too bad the rest of the shoe leaves something to be desired.  There is a review on them here: http://www.splitterchoss.com/2014/12/18/five-ten-hiangle-review/

Weird, I find the heel equally as shit as the Team. 90% of the time you can get by but there's occasionally very precise heelhooks that won't stick.

I like my scarpa instinct vs for heelhooks. In-between a muira and dragon heel. Just the right stiffness.

I have a fairly high volume foot with a small heel so I can't get my foot into a very small team.  This might explain some of the discrepancy in our experiences with the heel.  Either way, I wasn't impressed with the overall shoe.

Yeh, fair enough. I have a really wide forefoot but it's low volume (quite flat) with a narrow heel. That's why it's hard recommending shoes, etc.

The main common thing is that I also wasn't impressed with the shoe. I'd imagine that as a 5.10 athlete who HAS to wear 5.10, it gives you something a bit stiffer to use when required but I certainly think it's worth experimenting with different brands to try and get what you want. I find the Scarpa instinct VS great for limestone that slightly overhanging but don't love them in roofs where a softer shoe (team, dragon, etc) is better. The dragon used to be an excellent all-rounder but they've ruined them by making them stupidly soft. Perhaps the new Verdon is the 5.10 answer?

Took the plunge and got some. Performance felt great straight out the box, got them a whole number size smaller than my Teams. Heel seemed better but usual 5.10 thing of it starting to peel off. I find them a bit uncomfortable around the strap and hurts a bit taking them off. Just hope they don't stretch too much.
