Link broke?
Assume this is to do with stannard crushing his (cars) teammates in omloop the other day?

I was hoping this was going to be a thread ripping the piss out of the egg chasing watchers... :(

It is in the bike thread I suppose :)

Something about them drinking pints of piss and shoving glasses up their arses as part of the after match ritual.
Somehow I don't think it's worth the effort.

Stannard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQRSisiaC9A

Great stuff!  Watched Standard win with disbelief on staccato internet stream yesterday, Cav on pristine Eurosport HD today.  Brilliant start to the spring classics, with great racing in andulucia last weekend its looking good for an exciting season.

Just back from a rattling good weekend cycling round the cobbles... Caught the Omloop on the Eikenberg.

Full story: off the ferry in Zeebrugge, down past Oudenarde. Took longer than expected as one of our number faded in strong headdwinds. Knackered by the time we got there. No one around. Assumed we'd missed the race. Cycle to hotel, faff, to the bar. See they've another bloody 80km to go afterall. Idiots. Kit back on. Up the bloody hill again and it's now mobbed at the top of the Eikenberg...  Race rattles by at unbelievable speed. Shout a bit. Stragglers straggle a surprising way behind, bombing dodgily through the dispersing crowd, and just as fast the circus departs. Caught the superb finish in a bar and shouted a bit more. I'm not really into roadbiking but this was my third year of Flanders classics, and they're brilliant.)

yes, if there's another sport other than Rugby where middle aged chaps with a less than svelte figure can 'be engaged' it's cycling. :o :read: :jaw:

The difference is the RFUC membership doesn't require leg shaving, spending lots of££££ or shaving legs.

I prefer to participate in non contact sport for precisely that reason...

That's if you exclude 15 years of grooming fees at public school.

If you go down to your local club you'll find a very diverse and representative sample of society, but who am I to disrupt your lazy stereotypical view of the world?

Yep, after all someone's got to serve the beer, collect the glasses and mop the toilets.

So those big roughty, tuffty types don't shave their legs before wrapping themselves in all that white bondage tape. Oh I guess its to make the tape stick better.

I went to a comprehensive school that played Rugby Union.. it was the winter sport instead of football.

I fucking hated it.

Fine if you were big and fast or big and slow.

Suicide to try and participate if you were not.

My participatory memories are largely rock hard frosty pitches with me stood on the wing hoping no one would (a) notice me or (b) pass the stupid ball to me or (c) I would at some point feel my hands again when they thawed.

There are some elements of a decent game there somewhere, but to a TV punter like me its ruined by a daft/picky/impossible to fathom set of rules. Sorry egg chasing fans - I've tried to like it, but its log in my book.
