I've not had any myself but I've heard positive things about Decathlons quechua footwear.

I guess Go Outdoors would be somewhere to consider trying to find good value boots?

Depends if you think JD Sports will screw with Go Outdoors.  Guess the stores won't change a great deal immediately though.

My 5:10's have been the best walking shoe I've had. They actually grip. Going back into the Cumbre's was a bit like putting on greased plastic bags, in comparison. If there was a high top version, I'd buy them. Unfortunately...

All posts either sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek or mildly mocking-in-a-friendly-way unless otherwise stated. I always forget to put those smiley things...

The Ganda Guides used to cost ~£180 so should be decent...

I'd start by checking out whatever Decathlon were offering. I can't give specific suggestions for boots, just basing my recommendation on experience of these approach shoes which are very good and a bargain at £30. I know people who compare them favourably with Scarpa equivalents costing x4 as much.

I've been using the LOWA Renegade GTX for 30 years. An excellent boot for 3 season use.

For my part I love this Brasher Hillmaster Classics.
That is all.
