Mounting a fingerboard without screws
November 09, 2014, 07:41:23 pm
Has anyone tried mounting a fingerboard without any screws I.e. using some kind of strong bonding agent or epoxy putty e.g. no more nails

What would be the reason for doing this?

Sounds like a really bad idea, the epoxy could be fine but the paint, wallpaper, plaster, dust, air etc that makes up the wall will fail. There's been a couple of people either posting or discussed on here with serious back injuries due to failing pull up bars not properly fixed.

I'm guessing you're either renting or not sure what's in the wall. Either way do it properly or not at all. You can always fill holes and paint over when you move out.

Just to clarify I am thinking of bonding it to brick in the garage not an interior house wall

I will also be using the fingerboard abover a bouldering mat (I can't reach where the board would be mounted without it

Mine is on plasterboard fixings and that's my excuse for it almost being pristine (and I'm sticking to it).

Board is still not up . I'm toying with the idea of a free standing frame, has anybody done something similar and have a photo for reference?

I'm sure I read on here a while ago that someone's girlfriend sustained a really serious injury from falling backwards off a fingerboard or pull up bar that became detached. Doesn't sound worth the risk in the slightest to me.

Check out either the Beastmaker blog or site, they posted some photos of the most innovative ways of mounting their boards.
