I'm after a half decent front light for the bike on a budget, max £(10x'fuck all') and would like it bar mounted (will probably get a cheap headtorch as well).
doesn't need to be as bright as the sun but I do want to be able to see whats infront of me on a cycle path or road at night.
I've read the MTB and road light threads but didn't gleam much info.
Any recomendations?

Lezyne Macros are 200 lumens, rechargeable, should be around £35 if you shop around. Moon lights are also good, and there are some bargains around.

Can either buy batteries and charger or harvest cells from laptop batteries which is what I did. UK company so stuff arrives quickly and not having to send back to China.

It's to be three times as bright as my Petzl light and more waterproof at significantly under a tenth of the price. What can possibly go wrong?

Yet somehow I have the feeling the Petzl will still be the going into my rucksack for when the shit hits the fan.

ended up getting one of these for just less than a fuck-all over 10xfuck-all  (1 x fuck-all = £2.50 BTW), have only used them a few times but seem really good value for money and are really bright

I've got an older version of the CREE and it's great. Just make sure to unplug the light from the battery when not in use, and keep an eye on the colour of the switch on the back and recharge as soon as it changes from green. And it if it has a strobe, it's pretty trippy riding with it on!

I quite like them. You can aim one at the deck in the 10m in front of you, and aim the other dead ahead.
They go from small spot light area to quite a wide beam very easily. You just slide the top up. Kind of like the same action as removing a condom if you know what i mean.

It's rechargeable by USB. Since I got it in February I've only had to recharge it twice, with usage for 45 mins twice a week through winter, and once a week in summer.

fadanoid - are they good enough for riding off road?

Well, the beam does go quite wide. I have ridden through the dark woods and I think they are great for this. I also rode back along a dark trail which is at the edge of the woods and it seemed to light up the track well enough.

I would imagine that if you could also mount one or two of these on your helmet you would have an even brighter ride, and you could stick on orbital at glastonbury for the full effect.

Bought from them twice. Good lights for off road for about £40, UK (whatever that is) Co. (I think onw guy basically when I phoned him a couple of years ago. May be more now) who imports from China where they're made to his spec. Next day delivery.

Half the guys I ride with have now seem to have bought them. I found out about them from a stw thread.

I currently run also  a Hope £200+ ( when I bought it a couple of years ago ) light on NY helmet. Been back to hope once for fixing. My eywsight's shite, and I feel I get more 3D feel/shadows from one on the bars one on my head.
