As Dave said, Taipan is still closed. There has been a bunch of work recently in prep for opening lots of areas but currently most are still closed.

Ah, cheers folks.  No Gramps action for us perhaps.  We're going in October, so as the summer approaches is the likelihood of the area opening is even less? I'm assuming fire-risk will increase then?

As the area is burnt out, the fire risk is not that great but recovery of vegetation is much slower in high summer plus it will take time for the Parks Victoria people to restore tracks and clear any unstable trees. Finally, drop bears can reach plague proportions after a fire do public safety has to be a concern..... ;-)

I'd guess hoop snakes would be more of an issue too - less vegetation for them to move through.
