Just use a cheap camping roll mat, doubled up if necessary... also google ab ripper x, will be much better if you're looking to strengthen your core and abs...

Sit ups are not the most specific climbing related core strength training. Better to do dishes, supermen and planks.

http://www.moonclimbing.com/blog/school/core-body-the-missing-link/

"Doing sit ups every day just isn’t going to cut it. It’s working only one set of muscles and your legs are doing very little. In climbing it’s the weight of your legs that is half of the problem when your feet swing off"

See also the UKB Wiki - Training : The Science for tons of information and links to training in general and specifically about fingerboards.

If/when you injure yourself see the Injuries : The Science section.  :P

Someone asked about core exercises the other day, you can see the recommendations here http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,24369.0.html

Sit ups are very low intensity to be honest and if your form breaks down, which it generally does when you have to do huge sets of 20+, you can hurt your back. You're better off trying something more difficult for less reps.

I made a mat for just this sort of thing out of cast off foam packing sheet from work.

I have some spare, if you are any where near Oxford you are welcome to a slab.
