Not particularly new but that DJ Format presents A Right Earful is quality. And the Beastie Boys new one. Best thing they've done in years and feels proper old-skool. :D

Ah P1mpmeister Dave :guns: , you could be the person whose advice I'm looking for....

I'm after some funky beat-driven hip-hop. Don't mind if it's gangsta or non-gangsta (UK stuff would be good), but it's gotta have strong beats....but I'm not really into the abstract experimental stuff. Currently I've really liked: Aspects, Ugly Duckling, J5, Mark B & Blade and older Ludacris. I guess a cross between J5 and Aspects/MB&B would be the most appealing...

Any thoughts??

Cofe is probably better kwalified than me to give you the 4-11 on this.

I really like DJ Format - Music For The Mature B-Boy - thats british.

Also if you've not got it you need to own Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle. Regardless of what you like.

And to get the most out of your tunes on the portables with the least interference, check these mofo's out. Bit of a fat price tag but worth it.

As an aside, can anyone recommend some decent earphones that will stay in place whilst running, etc?

i used to have the older model of these - cos headphones alwasy feel like they're falling out on me even when walking to work etc. these ones stay in adn wern't too obtrusive. eventually the wire thing on one of them went but they're not expensive an the new ones are probably better.

Alright guys, haven't been around for ages. Sacked in my job and been climbing for the past few weeks.

Anyway fresh beats!

I've been listening to

Rahzel - Rahzel's Greatest Knockouts
FabricLive 16 - Adam Freeland
DJ Rhettmatic - Exclusive Collection
City of God - Original Sound Track
Fingathing - Fingathing And The Big Red Nebula Band
Jazzy Jeff - Hip Hop Forever II (highly recommended to all the G's out there)
Lifestyles - compiled by Coldcut

Anybody in to RJD2, I would recommend trying to get hold of the Constant Elevation: The 'Say Word ' Mix. Its pretty hard to get hold of but worth it!

Oh and Five mixed by the Nextmen looks pretty good. I'm sure you'd appreciate that Jim!

EDIT

Whilst just looking through my CD's I'd recommend you also have a look at:

Thievery Corporation - The Outernational Sound (new mix)
La Funk Mob - The Bad Seeds 1993 - 1997

THIS IS A MUST HAVE
Hanzo Steel - Kill Bill Mixes Vol 1

For your british Hip Hop needs, may i suggest checking out Scorsayzee, from Out Da Ville and Klashnekoff from Terra Firma. Bit more gangsta than your average british fare, Murda by Klashnekoff is one of my tunes of the moment.

Both DJ Format suggestions are on the money and quality, as for fingathing i prefer superhero music, both are quality tho. Some quality British production shit try aims stuff (particularly cold water music, fuckin awesome).

DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist - Brainfreeze
Latest blackalicious album (forget name and tis upstairs,  cant b arsed to go look.
Just been introduced to Red Snapper, quality jazzy, drum n' base style stuff.
Try the Funky fresh few as well pretty cool (and my avatar)
But the greatest dark album of all has to be DJ Shadow - endtroducing

Sorry if u kno all those already, tis all i can think of at the min
Alright, so im a gangly fool

Just came accross DJ Shadow - In Tune and on Time.  It's really good.  It's a slightly different view on some of his tunes (remixes by himself).  Well worth checking out and available on the BT network from you know where...

In a similar vein to the Mozart suggestion above - i.e. different to the rest of the suggestions  I thoroughly recommend

Kirsy McGee - Honeysuckle Rose + Frost

Quite like Nick Drake but a woman plus she's from Manchester

Just to make sure this stays on track i.e. hip-hop or breaks related

Recently got Aspect - Mystery Theatre and Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs. Mystery Theatre is okay, I mean pretty good UK hip-hop but not as quirky or sharp as Correct English. To The 5 Boroughs on the other hand, well I really liked it. Haven't paid much attention to the Beasties but this has plenty of fat beats. Definitely one for cruising around Sheffield's current selection of roadworks and fucked-up one way systems  :o

And on D's recommendation, I've order the DJ Format CD.

hmmm, aspects are a weird one - i didn't rate correct english that much and have since avoided em. other stuff on the same label is good though like One  Cut. plus if you like that shit check out pr0n Theatre Ushers.

was in fopp and noticed Skinnyman has released a walbum, heard a track on the wireless last night and it was megadope so will probs invest. anyone who's heard fingerprints of the gods will seriouly experience this guys abilities.

also, finally got hold of common's 'one day it'll all make sense'. this is simply excellent.
Be excellent to each other.

Ah actually Cofe, now that you're here and apparently "better kwalified than [dave] to give me the 4-11", could you have a look at my request on page 1 and give me some ideas if you have some, cheers  :8)

saw a documentary on Skinnyman on BBC3 a while back - what I heard sounded good - pretty gritty stuff.

If I'm right his album's called 'Council Estate of Mind' - was gonna nip out and buy whilst on lunch.
