Diversity & offensive words
April 16, 2014, 08:51:18 pm
Joy of joys I'm going to have to go on a diversity training (update) course in the not too distant future and unlike previous occasions I can't afford to take the piss; so apart from the obvious which phrases / words are off limits in the world of the uber PC?

For example we might be employing a semi dwarf, I'm pretty sure she knew she didn't have to shop at 'long tall sally' is it o.k. to refer to her as a dwarf?

So apart from the obvious what should I avoid? :please:

We have to undergo diversity training every two years. Thankfully it's online - and quite well designed so you do it again and again until you learn the correct procedures/regulations and score highly enough. Ours is password protected but I suspect google will find you a diversity tutorial...

Just go there asking yourself if it's ok for your colleagues to refer to you as 'the bog-trotter' and you should be fine.

My organisation introduced on line diversity training. However they had to get rid of it quickly after it was pointed out that there representations of people in it, appeared to be suggesting racial stereo types and therefore could be seen as racist.
If I were you Sloper a bit of finger tape across your lips might be the answer.

Also know that referring to someone as a cockwomble or asshat in the workplace is no longer deemed acceptable. Unless there is 100% agreement on the point.

Just have a couple of large whiskies beforehand and I'm sure it'll go fine.

Go on, let it all out. It would be refreshing to break the sterotype of lawyer for once.

So you're saying a lawyer being offensive is not normal?

when you're telling them that you think there should be no difference between the status of day boys and that of boarders when it comes to being considered for rugby captain, you could impress them by using the term "day pupil"

Highlight at an early stage that you are an ardent feminist and wish to reclaim "cunt" for normal conversational use.

Unless the words are 'dead' and 'fit' when used in reference to 'birds'.
Just saying.

Indeed I think the WWY scale is much more appropriate.

For information the WWY scale runs from NWASCOAS to DRIW.

A GCSE in cryptology if you can work it out.

I had to go through mandatory training the week before last which contained a similar online course. Similarly it contained a high number of racial stereotypes (in cartoon form).

Consider it granted would sir like an A*, as it doesn't matter it won't qualify you for anything.

Incidentally You can have an MPhil from the University of Sloper (formerly Tanky's College Sheffield)  if you can explain the cultural significance of crap like this on the internet, 'tis beyond me.

I must have missed that 'webinar' and been too busy looking at pr0n.

Sadly the art of trolling seems to have had its golden days, my last hope is to get a spot writing on 'comment is free' in the Guardian / loose affiliate to some of Miliband's SPADs.

Figured it out after about 10 minutes of thought - do I have to submit my workings or can I just claim my GCSE in Cryptology?
