I had the same beers that night (and a couple of sneaky Old P's) and I felt a little rough the following day, much to my surprise :8)  . The stout was the pick of the bunch though.

Tried Abbeydale Brewery Devotion in the Dev Cat last week. My new fave replacing Moonshine.
Bloke in the real ale offy on Archer Road tonight recommended Black Mass. Said it was "quite easy to drink"
Personally I always find that a bit of a plus when it comes to beer.

This is nice:

Ale Mary

It has a warm and sweet aroma of cloves corriander and ginger. The palate provides touches of rums, raisins and sultanas with a dry fruity finish. Winner of the 2001 Guardian Beer Festival.

For Sheffield folk, you can get it (and lots of other interesting beers) at Mitchells, Meadowhead.

we've got the youngs brewery down the road in wandsworth...still haven't managed to go there though.

daan saaf, well, there's harvey's sussex bitter, which is abso-fucking-lutely the best, in your narrator's humble opinion. then of course there's bombadier, flowers (another sussex one), spitfire from the finest kentish hops, and london pride.

one of my flatmates is a bit of an ale freak, drags us round pubs in the middle of hackney housing estates to taste eclectic ales...

that outmeal shit is the bomb - top tip, get a bunch of mates and arrange a trip round the wentworth brewery. it'll cost you a fiver, they have a small bar and will pour you as many pints of oatmeal stout, WPA, rampant gryphon etc etc as you can drink. looks a bit like this:

word!

word to those who believe black is beautiful:

Wickwar Brewery's - Mr Perretts Traditional Stout 5.9%

- dead tasty, incredibly rich compared to most stouts I've had.  Made last night's trip to see Newcastle defeated by mendacious spaniards bearable.

And, for those who are interested in ruining their winter grit form, the Durham Beer Festival is coming soonish.  Held on  1-3 September (Thurs-Sat) in Dunelm House (the hideous Student Union building).  It's a biggie - around 80 beers - including lots of good local ones (Durham Brewery, Wylam, Mordue etc).  On past exposure I can guarantee the presence of some awe-inspiring beer-guts... be there.. or be fit and healthy....

Time to revive this decadent topic:

Just drinking a bottle of Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Wow! it's like beer with chocolate in - sounds gross but is really yummy. That said, I doubt most people would want more than one bottle - it's like a "pudding beer" or something.

* alky disclaimer:
I wouldn't normally be drinking ale on a Monday afternoon but I was working from midnight last night 'til 6 this morning and am now wide awake again after only 3 hours kip...so I reckon I'm allowed ;)
