Looking at stars, your telescope wisdom please.

It's my lass's 30th in January and she knows loads of constellations so I was thinking it might be nice to buy her a half decent telescope but I know pretty much nothing!

I have seen loads like this: http://www.scopesnskies.com/magnify/1540.1.html but she'll probably think that looks too tech (i.e. ugly modern fancy).

So, ideally I'd like a more classic looking one. Any thgoughts?

Also, I think it would be good to be able to mount my DSLR onto the scope.

And finally, I have a decent manfrotto tripod for my SLR. Can I get a different head for it and moutn the scope on that?
