West Lakes - Child friendly bouldering
July 18, 2013, 12:12:36 pm
Following Lukes thread about N. Wales child friendly bouldering..

I'm off to the Lakes with the family in August, staying in a little village between Loweswater & Workington.

Looks like St. Bees is only 10mins away so I'm keen to check that out, although I assume it probably isn't very child (1yr/3yrs) friendly.

Any recommendations in the Lakes proper?

Virtually the same criteria as Luke:

- Short walk in or pram friendly
- Plenty of grass (Little one is crawling now!)
- Up to ~7A/+
- Easy problems would be good for the missus
- Shaded would be good in this heat but not essential
- nice view ?!

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks Chris.  Can I delete my thread somehow?  Don't want to incur the 'duplicate thread' wrath

Langdale?! It's frickin miles. I'm from Whitehaven and I had never been bouldering there until I moved away from the Lakes.

What about Honister? Not exactly mega but roadside and a nice aspect. There's enough to keep you entertained up to 7a+ for 1/2 a day I reckon. Nice grass for child, ice cream van at Gatesgarth farm and potential for lakeside pottering.

Or Eskdale granite?

P.S. For future ref there is now a Clip n Climb at Maryport, but you have to be age 4 or older http://www.clipnclimbmaryport.co.uk/

I'd second honister. 10 seconds from the car, great location. Flat, safe for a little one. Kept me going for a few hours up to 7a.

Sorry, my knowledge of Lakes geography is pretty shocking.
