Well, now its on download, and on youtube, it seems pointless me creating the other torrents and seeding.

good efforts to all. watching the old skool vids made me think back to the days when we watched programmes in the sports hall on a wheeled in tv and video cabinet at primary school with the climbing rope just tantalisingly dangling behind us

was that a wire brush ron was using? tut tut. thankfully climbers today know the damage they can cause

have to find some other time to watch them all as baby namnok's head was in the way

Chuffed that everyone's been enjoying the Ron stuff! As promised I've had a dig about to see if I've got any other old stuff and turned up a few:

Everest The Hard Way - mid 80s (ish) narrated and starring Chris Bonington
Lakeland Rock - mid 80s again
and something that I've just called Joe and Don on Cemetary Gates - obviously it's Brown and Whillans and from what I remember it was filmed just before Don died

I there's any interest in these I'll try and get them on Youtube or, failing that, stick them on WeTransfer again.

Let me know if you want them!

(Everest, not so much)

I see what you mean. Not much to do with rock or bouldering. One of the last of the big high publicity siege-style expedition circuses, and so already a bit anachronistic even in the late 70s. Etc etc.

But.

Check out Dog Scott's photo of sunset from the summit of Everest. Beautiful, you think first. But then: Sunset From The Summit Of Everest. Oh shit. What happens next? Scott/Haston highest bivvy ever survived etc. Gnarly enough.

I would love to see the Brown and Whillans one!  If you could put that on YouTube it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Lakeland Rock - mid 80s again

Might run into issues with this one as well as it's available on DVD

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lakeland-Rock-DVD-Chris-Bonington/dp/B000JJRBS6

Be cool to see it again though, remember the Whillance bit.  And IIRC Livesey on Footless Crow with Bonington hanging on a rope all the way up? Whillans & Bonington on Dove Crag?

Thanks again to everyone.

Thing is, I've never seen them and really want to watch Ron "come on arms" on Lord, but then I'd like to do it myself and don't want to spoil it  :devangel:

To Ron topping out after soloing Vector "Fancy a brew Ron?"
"Aye, cuppa tea'd be greeeat".

Superb :) I'm amazed his swearing was restricted to the odd "Jesus" on Lord of the Flies...

We're not there yet folks.

We've satisfied the ronettes, of which i am unashamedly one.

But we still have 2 episodes of sids rock athlete to unearthed.

Classic shit. Pete livesy climbing downhill racer (and calling his critics out) and Wellington crack. London wall, etc, gordale, etc.

check your cupboards. They must be out there somewhere.

Cheers

That's why we need one more push.

The Ron episode was first ascent.

We still need-

in search of new summits, and new extremes, from rock athlete tv series.

One more push guys. Take the gas and air if you need it!

There was a "crikey" and a "by 'eck".  May have tested the Beebs profanity filter back in '79.

Or maybe they were dubbed-in exclamations to emphasise just how Yorkshire Ron is.

2 minutes of Pete livesey on downhill racer. Possibly more clips chips if you put the right search in.

Yes. Features Ron on the route of the same name at the Tor and Geoff Birtles struggling up Right Unconquerable with the classic dialogue:

Geoff "I've run out of holds"

Ron "Nevermind"

I've got a copy on VHS I picked up through UKB freecycle. If someone in Sheffield has the time & skills to convert this into a more internet friendly version let me know and I'll work out a way of getting it to you.

Brilliant work on the videos everyone. Due to my on-going internet problems I'm having to use my phone as a hotspot but apparently my computer is so old that it doesn't have a USB 2.0 connection, this meant that it took about 3h to watch the Lord of the flies footage. It was well worth it, cheers.

I've discovered something I have in common with Big Ron; Vauxhall Viva ownership.

Ron - "on the brownie one"
Geoff - "ohhh - there's nothing like a brownie"

as can be seen here....

Got the rest of it on me hard drive somewhere (the VHS is a bit chewed at the start).  No time to sort out anything today.  Will dig it out and upload the whole thing.

Techie question - its currently in .wmv format - 640x480 - 5500 kbps. 39mins long, 1.53 gig.

I have handbrake, so can convert to any format.

Is this worth doing, or should I just upload to Youtube as is ??
