Wonder if the tree still stands?

No, it's gone now, though it was still standing at the beginning of this year. Last photo I can find on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/selectah/6813242118/#

Time, tide and dynos wait for no man.

October 15, 2003, 03:51:50 for me though I seem to have mainly been lurking of late.

Anyway, while we're reminiscing, here's the video from the first (?) ukb meet waaaay back in 2004. Scene of dodgy shirts and topouts...

Of course pre-HD, pre-steadicams and pre-youtube(!), which having uploaded it is now advising me "We detected ways to improve your video’s lighting and stability. Would you like us to enhance it?" Huh! Of course back in those days having a monopod and a ripped off copy of Premiere was enough to elevate you to film-maker status...

Edit: Jim, I didn't choose the screengrab, that's all youtube  ;D

who's that chick wearing nige's face?

Scene of dodgy shirts and topouts...

Unfortunately that day I was only ticking one of those boxes.

Think so, I seem to remember a pic of a skinny guy wearing adidas sambas hanging off the top of deliverance with the caption "Rock Designs Hee Hee Hee".

Who's 'tinkerbell's anus'?
It was a user on b.com :)

Must have been late 2002 not long after I met you when I was at slipstones with Honkong stuey's brother? Either then or after we met up at Earl Crag when Hk stuey was over.
Yeah something like that - I was super-hungover after a stay at a nearby luxury hotel <hic!>

Anyone got any old screenshots from the green and orange days? Is it on any internet archive site?
Never managed to find it - probably not a bad thing really ;)

Don't knock that vid it was one of the first climbing vids i watched in the infancy of my climbing life. It got me down to St Bees and it eventually became my local crag. I never did get Undercooke done though before i moved to Spain. Will have to go back. I never knew it was a UKB meet. A moment in history captured forever.

Lurker then registered 2004.  Met some proper lifelong new friends, kept in contact with many old friends, climbed in some wonderful new places, read some brilliant books, heard new music and other sh*t all thanks to UKB.

That video both got me really psyched for climbing when I was a kid and also introduced me to the wonderful world of Quantic's music.

That'll be it. Good detail recollection.

 :icon_beerchug: Happy birthday UKB!  :icon_beerchug:

I've had a lot of fun on here over the years and I hope it continues (especially the comedy genius of lagerstarfish!). I like the fact that is has broadened out to include all aspects of climbing; we were even reporting and discussing winter climbing on here a few winters back.

My profile details tell me that I started October 11, 2002. I'm more of a lurker these days but chip in occasionally.

It was Mr Nic Sellars hanging off deliverance.

Between FD and Palomides thus demonstrating why UKB is so brilliant. People who care about the trivial, yet important, stuff in this little world of ours. I would be mighty impressed if someone dug out the old OTE with it in.

I never knew it was a UKB meet. A moment in history captured forever.

Likewise. I was tagging along with Kim, Dave et al but never realised it was a UKB meet. Dave's shirt was the only thing I really remembered from that day prior to seeing the vid just now. A lifetime ago...

Happy 10th anniversary!

Registered May, 2004 under the username "jonas" to reply on thread about Hono in Gothenburg. Lost my passwd but registered again in 2006 under my current username to reply on a thread on Ogawayama in Japan.

Fitting in its way.  I enjoy the banter of course—and reading and writing on forums is one of the few ways for us who hate TV to learn foreign slang and vernacular—but the best thing for me with ukbouldering is the helpful well-travelled users of all abilities ready to give advice on destinations all over the world.

Cheers

March 2004 and I was told by Irish Si that I'd no doubt be banned within 2 weeks. Got banned from UKC 3 times since but not from UKB

It's a good forum. I like the general amount of experience and good information on here, as well as most of the banter.

You've never even come close to being banned Fiend :)

In 10 years, apart from obvious spammers/scammers/etc we've only had to ban a handful of users - certainly less than 20.  This a testament to the strength of the community and it's ability to weed out fools before they get a chance to become a nuisance.
