Since raving the night away is out of the question, I want a pub where I can sit down, catch up with old mates in a pleasant atmosphere, and have a bite of decent food to eat. Preferably not city centre, and SW of the city but not too far out either (i.e. The Cricket is a bit of a pain in the arse to get to).

Suggestions, please.

Broomhill is far too full of those darn young people. 

Greystones is most definitely out, even if it did do food - I have some rather hazy underage memories of the place (I grew up just up the road).

Cross Scythes at Totley is looking good - nice and close to us. Anyone actually eaten there?

If it's the evening then booking would be advisable.

Probably get away with it at lunch [Dinner!] time, but again, book if there's a bunch of you so they can shove tables together. etc.

The Broady has a really nice quasi victorian dinning room upstairs that groups can book, with a beautiful large bespoke dinning table. Recommended.

The Greystones has recently had a Thornbridge refit Lu, and I had some food there a few weeks ago. Only sarnie and chips, but tasty.

Change to a Friday.. And go cross scythes... Or rent a room in any of the above. Many have private such rooms at near no cost. Really reduces the kid stress.

The Millhouses has also had a recent refit - food was ok but not brilliant but reckon it'd be worth a look.

We looked at the Millhouses, but some of the food reviews weren't the best!

Not keen on the Beauchief, I always feel a bit out of place (i.e. very scruffy) there!

Reckon we'll forget the food and just decide on any of the above pubs for drinking fun.

I still think you should book table(s) at The Broadfield - eat and then stay sat where you are for the rest of the night
