The Big Smoke
« on: April 24, 2012, 08:39:01 pm »
In l
London for a couple of days in next few weeks, was wondering where to throw in a couple of sessions. Arch looks good and convenient, is it worth a visit.
Shit technique but can pull a bit.

Arch is alright, can be very busy. Variety of angles in several rooms and the novelty of a huge rising roof with a rising floor.

Arch 2 is apparently miles better, only one tube stop away, loads to go at, so go there if you have a choice.

I thought the Arch was worth a visit, in similar circumstances to you. friendly enough.

Another vote for the Arch. I was in London for a couple of days last year and found it well worthwhile. If Arch2 is bette then go there.
jawohl!

The Arch 2 aka The Biscuit Factory (near Bermondsey tube) is apparently the mutt's nuts.

Loads of room, Moon board set up - I've got mates saying it's by far the best bouldering facility in London.

I haven't been there yet - when I check it out I'll post up my thoughts.
That was a negative, and right now I need two positives. One to cancel out the negative and another one, you know, just so I can have a positive.

I thought the arch was good when i went last year, but it was one of those really hot days and it was stifling - not that this was their fault! and also v.busy after 1800.

I visited on a recent work trip back to the UK. Arch2 at the Biscuit Factory is the better of the two I think, and only one tube stop further on the Jubilee line. It's probably a similar size to The Works (The Arch is much smaller, squirreled away in the arches under London Bridge station and just felt a bit pokey, cold and dingy).

Arch2 also had what I can only be describe as a 'Beast Matrix' - 4 beastmakers in a 2x2 grid, with the top set being further out from the wall so you could move around between them. Genius!

I climb at Arch and Arch 2 (Biscuit factory most weeks).

While Biscuit factory is without doubt the best bouldering in London, it's huge, has good trainning area etc. If you don't know London or just after a quick session after work the Arch is still worth a visit, plenty to keep you busy for an evening and now the new place has opened its much quiter. It's also a lot easier to get too if you don't know London as it's under London Bridge station.

Cheers for the advice. Ended up checking both out. Arch was good, Arch 2 was awesome.......good enough to be in Yorkshire.

I think I speak on behalf of all Londoners when I say we'll give Yorkshire Arch 2 if we can have Caley installed in Bermondsey...
Deal?

I'd swap all the walls in London for the Zoo York block.
