On recent trip the Dolomites after climbing the South West Arete of Torre Venezier our rest day the following day consisted of a gentle five hour stroll around Tre Cimme di Lavarado and some of the WWI tunnels, paths and via ferratta there abouts (some shockingly inept people using via ferratta, one muppet occasionally clipping one of his tails in whilst the other dangled between his feet where he kept on tripping on it, only a matter of time until he tripped over it properly whilst not clipped in, fucking muppet, we were safer without anything than that clown).

Does ranting work up enough of a sweat to blow your rest day? Maybe in Slackers case?

I'm well practiced in the art of ranting and it requires little effort/energy to do so.

I made the mistake of hiking the path through the bottom of the Verdon Gorge as a "rest" day, complete with doing the uphill drag out in full afternoon sun having run out of water. Fucking muppet. Was completely wasted the next day.

I can see how that would be knackering, looked like it took 10hrs to walk from the top to the bottom of the Gorge.

I think fatdoc may have a few comments about walking around the bottom of the Gorge!

I suspect, like many a wage-slave, most of my days are "rest days": wake-up, go to work, sadly contemplate a crap weekend weather forecast, return from work, eat, sleep.

The life of a desk jockey.  I sit at work on rest days and try not to even think. UKB helps with this.

I used to work with someone who used to go for "rests"* for 1/2 hour in the Gents every day...

*his definition not mine...

Reminded me of a joke:

Little boy says to his mum "Mum, is it wrong to have a willy?".

"Of course not" she says "whatever gave you that idea?".

"I just saw Dad in the bathroom." says the kid "Sweating like mad trying to pull his off."

Quick thinking there Fultonius, or have you had to use this excuse before...? hmm....

I've made a similar error on a rest day run in france, intended to go for a nice 40-50 minute run, and ended up going over a mountain pass, down the other side and back again; 2 1/2 hours later, it was becoming clear that hard redpointing the next day was profoundly unlikely.

So far, this highly scientific survey is showing that almost half of UkB users consider compulsive drinking a good rest day. Legendary.

I'm off for a rest day run, sets of deadhangs, and maybe some core work.  ;)

When I was in the south of France a few years ago, a couple from Sheffield went and cycled Mount Ventoux one a 'rest' day from Orpierre.  I had a lie in, went for a swim and had some beers, I think I made the right choice!

I only chose that option because I think it's a good activity for every day, including rest days.  :beer2: :pissed: :icon_beerchug: :alky:

Incidentally, why have we got two almost identical beer smileys but have still lost the "sliding beer down the bar" one. Something should be done!
