Verdon Tunnel Access Closed
September 08, 2011, 12:18:17 pm
I found out the other day (courtesy of abarro81) that the tunnel and couloir sampson access to the Verdon gorge are closed for the rest of this year.

This obviously makes some of the floor to top routes a lot more commiting/serious although I'm guessing you could always do the huge walk out of the gorge instead.

Information here

and the original thread is here

(also a useful topo site here)

if anyone else is heading out there,

Technically the tunnels and Couloir Sampson are closed. However, it appears that local climbers (guides?) were hired to do some of the work.

Therefore they're pretty sympathetic to climbers and let a whole load of people through, some to the duc, others to hulk. One group was even allowed through the first tunnel.
Also its possible to get out if you need to, the steps up to the tunnels currently aren't in-situ but that doesn't pose much of a problem.
